i did 3 emergency call outs last night for burst pipes  luckily all very local  so i walked to them with my toolbox on the kids sledge

The water pipe in my garage burst yesterday,what a mess,about 4 inches of water over everything took some drying out.

I would be checking why the water did not drain out through the bottom of the garage door. At one point many years back all garage floors had to have a run on them to allow spilled fluids like petrol to run outside and not build up, they may have been only for garages attached to houses. It was pre 1990.

My sister-in-law phoned me for help with a burst pipe to the outside tap, she couldn't find her stop cock ...... no titering at the back. I've just removed the burst bit for the time being and used a spare ball valve till the weather gets warmer.

HI Mantahatch,its a compton sectional type garage,so it needs a fillet of cement along the bottom of the walls to stop water coming in(usually),and theres a lip on the bottom of the door to stop it being forced.
So its a bit of a bugger to drain.

Forgot to say,the cars tyres were frozen to the garage floor this morning.

Fair enough, they need a reasonable level floor and would have been exempt from those rules.

my mate run a copper pipe 2" from the ground all along the side of the house. its totally bare. hes gonna regret it when it snows.
