What I can't figure out is why some people believe that a safe speed is 20mph (in the conditions present around me - obviously in 9" of snow, 20mph is a safe speed ;D), yet have had their cars fitted with a digital accelerator pedal that has two settings - 'off' and 'on' just with a variable speed limiter ;)

Yep, and then they go loopy when you pass them quite safely at 40 MPH on the other lane of the dual carriageway - the one with (shock, horror!) a light dusting of snow. :o

People who are blatantly not coping with driving should concentrate on what they're doing, or better still, stay at home, not abuse other drivers. >:(

Speaking of which.. I see the M3 was closed this morning due to an 'incident' .. to be fair I don't know what the conditions on the M3 were like, but the back roads between Bracknell & Chertsey were clear, dry and not even slightly icy, the M3 can't possibly have been that bad..

It was cold, so if anything had melted and re-frozen it would have been slippery.

Probably some rep in a BMW playing pinball with the armco barriers. ;D

Sadly, the M3 closure is because there was a dead body found.

A mate of mine works on the motorway maintainance, and I was talking to him last night, it seems like people are still driving like idiots and paying no attention at all to the poor weather.

Obviously they have attended a lot more accidents etc with the poor weather, but sadly have had a motorist come through a cordoned off section and crush one of the teams workers legs against the armco and a team leader has been killed because someone had carered 2/300 yards through a coned off section and hit him.

The motorways are patrolled and gritted as as when and the snow hasnt even had chance to settle. (Dont know how they faired last night though)

Seems we have the two extremes of "excessive" caution and none at all.

My apoologies.

Totally miswritten by me.

The team leader was talking to some one stood outside of thier vechicles, and someone on the motorway carered through a coned off area and slid 2/300 yards and killed him instantly

I certainly agree, as it seems to me that more and more people are displaying a complete lack of rationale when it comes to the process of decision-making.

The cynic in me would say that's the inevitable result of responsibility for one's own actions being taken away in most areas of life where one is now wrapped in cotton wool and assumed to have no common sense.

The stark reality of car, driver and icy road provides no easy escape, unfortunately. ;)

Not had enough snow to worry about, although the boot is full of heavy stuff now, as well as a shovel (but still have to buy that sand!).

But I did go and have myself some fun yesterday morning, in the inch of snow we did have.  Great for car control practice at 5mph :y

We've had no snow today (yet!) but what we have had previously is now sheet ice... Our road is very interesting ::) ;)

Trouble is... We're forecast about 22 hours of non stop snow, starting at about 2100 tonight! Not sure SWMBO will be making it to work tomorrow ::)

I know I'll have to get up to move my car in the morning, then clear hers for her so I'll probably end up taking her. She's not very confident in bad snow/ice as she's had a few "experiences" over the last 10 years or so, including getting stranded on the A14 for 18 hours a few years back :o
