Dis-Packs on pre-facelift - Is this true ?????????

Putting a few ad's out for my mig & decided to post an ad on another Vx website.  My ad clearly states that it's a 1996 2.5 V6 (pre-facelift).  I explain that the rocker gaskets need replacing & along with other comments, a senior member makes the following statement:

I go on to explain that my Omega (2.5 pre-facelift) does not have dis-packs? further explaining that I have single distributor at the rear of engine (DIS Module, to be purist).

Topic gets locked by the Moderator! (not gonna name, names here 'cos they're an oof member) who also agrees with the member that thinks pre-facelifts have dis-packs  :P

Have I gone mad? aren't dis-packs the things mounted on top of each rocker cover, on facelift 2.6 & 3.2 models only? I have rubber HT leads.

Give me strength!

Is the single DIS Module on the rear of a PFL engine refered to as dis-packs or dis-pack? Am I losing the plot? Ok don't answer the latter question  ;) :D ;D

Whether the DIS pack is on the cylinder head or bolted down at the back of the engine, they are both commonly refered to as DIS packs. That said the ones on 2.6/3.2 I have seen many people refer to them as coil packs. Again that said the early one like yours can also be referred to as a coil pack.

I can't comment on warped cam covers. I believe there are 2 ways of calling this. I will add I have never had to replace a cam cover in 10 years of family Omega ownership and that covers 5 Omegas (two of them 2.0 16V, two 2.5 V6 and 0ne 2.6)


I believe DIS stands for Distributorless Ignition System

So DIS applies equally to all petrol Omegas (I think)

Well, there is a single DIS pack / coil pack, whatever you want to call it on the older V6 and two on the later. Seems an odd thing to get into such an argument about.

Yes they are DIS packs, the coil packs are used on the 2.2/2.6/3.2.

As for the cam covers, we know the truth on that one. Cant see the oil damaging the coil pack, these usualy have issues related to corrosion of the iron core due to water damage

The DISPACK on my 3.0 mini facelift caused 5 cylinder running due a rotten plug lead that apperantly knackers the dispack as it tries to compensate for the weak spark.
   New leads & pack fitted now, all good. 8-)

thanks guy's, that clears things up.. I stand corrected and shall refrain from refering to my lonely single dis-pack as a distributor in future, just in case I upset any other site members (not OOF).  Bl*ody annoying when you're trying post an honest ad & someone starts posting a load of flannel about complications that I don't have, solely on the basis that I have some oil leaking from the o/s rocker gasket.

Couldn't agree more KW.  But what do you do when you post an honest ad explaining the rocker gaskets need replacing & someone jumps in saying that it's the single worst job to do on the V6 migs, 2nd only to the exhaust manifold. Then going on to infer that a minor oil leak will mean any potential buyer possibly having to replace leads, dis-packs & warped rocker covers  ::) ::) ::)
