Coming down thick& fast here now. Got to drive 17 miles to work tonight, and back again in the morning - should be fun. [smiley=evil.gif]

:'( There`s an even 2ft. of snow here now.....`trying to work out how long it`ll take me to clear enough of the driveway-track across the fields (as two wheel-ruts) to reach the nearest tarmac road; 500 metres away......feeling gutted, alone and miserable. :'(

I was thinking about you yesterday when on radio 4 they were speaking to a reporter in Llanberis who was talking about the problems there.

A big warm virtual hug for you Debs, now Heathrow is closed it looks like the OOFers will have my presence for a little bit longer  :y

Thank you, it`s sincerely appreciated! ;)
I`ve been out shovelling for most of the day and cleared two parallel  18" wide wheel tracks, about 250 yards long in the 2 ft. snowpack depth; if there`s no further drifting tonight, I hope to be able to clear the other 250 yards (or so) of driveway, towards the nearest paved road, tomorrow.
I hate feeling cut-off.....it`s so lonely and isolating; but at least I`ve done 'something'. :)

Can you not use the big tractor to make tracks for the disco to drive along....... :-?

Hope you are OK anyway.... :y

I woke up .. well, left bed about an hour ago and looked outside to see, shock, horror, 3" of snow.

I knew at that point that England would have imploded and sure enough, both major airports closed (I think Stanstead is still open - [edit] nope, that's shut too), all trains cancelled in the south, all busses off, and by the look of it, the roads around here haven't been treated.

FFS England, you're a bloody disgrace! Debs has an excuse, 2' of snow is enough to stop anything sensible in a country like ours, but 6", 3"?

As someone said to me - perhaps we should have an international appeal. Please, send aid. But don't laugh at us.

The snow`s that deep that I can`t even see the driveway`s alignment and the ground is so really boggy/soft on each side of the narrow rocky-track, so 6" off line and the 8 tonne tractor would go straight-in up to it`s axles (as would the Disco) :'(

When I`ve used the John Deere to 'mark' the driveway in previous snowfalls; its`weight has simply compacted the snow into super-dense ice and it`s then 'glazed' and taken weeks to thaw. :'(

There`s simply no substitute for 'elbow grease'...and before it`s compacted; the snow can actually be shoveled reasonably-well using a wide plastic shovel.

I did pay a contractor to come`plough the driveway one year; but ended up having spend the best part of a day trying to to rescue his tractor with mine....and still got a large-bill, even though He`d only cleared 25 yards of the 500 yard total. :(

It's been very picture-squeue here as well.

Taken an hour or so ago.  This is the third time since yesterday I've dug out this half of the driveway.

Went out for a wander, but the snow was hammering down, and no pics have really come out.

Well looks like we have got off lightly again going by others posts and pics, looks similar to Aarons pics round here. 2 or 3 inches at the most, yet 8 inches in Hearhrow.  :-/

Monday morning should be interesting.

At last we have had some proper snow here. Light dusting throughout this cold snap until.... 2 hours ago when it really started, now have 9" of snow sitting on the car roof.
Thought we were going to get stranded in Sainsbury's as they stopped all vehicles entering the car park and it was 'nose to tail' trying to get out. Sat looking at the hill topped by traffic lights leading out of Sainsbury's car park, and all the front wheel drive cars struggling to get up it. 'hmmmm ! not gonna get a run at this am I, with all the starting and stopping'.
Good old Miggy went up there with hardly a spin of the rear wheels.  :y

Under-steer is when the front of the car hits the wall, and over-steer is when the rear of the car hits the wall.
Power is how fast you hit the wall and torque is how much of the wall you take with you.
