Been to the Chiropractor today...
« on: 08 December 2010, 21:22:53 »

... and I'm in agony tonight! Had acupuncture too which is quite a strange feeling but he's confident he'll get me fixed up eventually.

Down side is the temporary repair I had done on the Rear Exhaust box gave way and the box snapped, dropped down at the front, dug in and damaged the rear bumper :'( :'(

Worse still, I'm in no fit state to repair it (and won't be for a good few weeks :() so have to take it into a garage tomorrow to get it replaced. Not happy that I'm going to be paying through the nose (in comparison with getting an Eternal System) for a back box :'( :'( :'(

Mind you... I'll still get it a little cheaper as it's a mate's garage :y :y

Oh... And he reckons I've pinched a nerve and it has caused the back to spasm. Also noted that my "frame" is well out of alignment after a crash some 11 years ago so he's going to try and put it all right :y :y

I was amazed at how violent he was though, considering the reason for my visit :o :o

I hope it works for you (as it didn't for me!)

I needed a set of exercises to build certain muscle groups and to free off the problematic area, thats what finaly sorted it out

Worked well though and I still have to do the exercises occasionaly

Thankfully it's another mate so he's doing it cheap for me. It's worth a try as I'm in agony! My GP recommended trying it so I'll go through the motions at least :y

Be careful mate, a workmate a while back had to give up work completely when a chiropracter completely mis-diagnosed the cause of his back pain and dealt with it 'violently'. It was pitiful to see how he turned out  :(

Didn't work for me either in the lower back. I have a compressed vertebrae in upper back between shoulder blades and chiropractic does offer relief, but I found a physio who knew the chiropractic "manoeuvres" as well. For me that's what's needed, chiropractic is too violent in the lower back too as a rule but sometimes it's needed to free it off, then physio from there to stop the spasms and seizing up as a result.

But if I was in your shoes at this stage chiropractic wouldn't work this soon after a painful episode, back would be far too tense, and holding in a safe pain free position, no matter how hard I tried relaxing was too painful. Might be a case of getting past this stage let the pain subside and then go for chiro?

Trouble is it's a very individual thing, so can only pass some experiences and hope it may help, it's a case of finding what works for you ateotd. I guess an old injury is the better of the possible causes?

Atb Paul.  :-*

Well... Went for my 4th visit today!

Still not good, but much better than I was a couple of weeks ago :y

As posted in another thread, turns out I've "Slipped a Disc" (which is an incorrect term as it's an impossibility!) and also trapped the sciatic nerve... No wonder I was/am in so much pain :o :o :o

That said... It is improving, slowly. :y :y Another visit on Monday (before Christmas) and then see what he says :(

I'm not going to teach you to suck eggs Paul, but be careful! Have you been refered by your GP to have a scan done? You really need to know the root cause, i.e. wear & tear, stress displacement, arthritic degeneration etc. before you let anyone loose on your spine! You are correct as to the term 'slipped' disc being a misnomer, they 'bulge' through a weakness in the disc sac & it is this that causes nerve inflamation & sciatica. I have been in chronic pain for 25 years since my spine was damaged in an accident at work & surgery to fuse my lower vertebrae was not successful. Now i'm cursed with degeneration of the discs above the the original damage as they now carry all the stress & load. Modern methods are now far superior but tbh, you need to steer clear of anything that worsens the situation & may lead to later surgery! I hope you are feeling better soon  :y

Was advised by the doctor origionally and this guy has X-ray facilities :y

He's convinced it's a combination of whiplash from years ago and wear and tear!

Has made a huge improvement and I can actually feel the improvement.

Get yourself a TENS Machine, Llloyds Pharmacy stock them. Works wonders particularly with relief of muscle spasms.
