Cable must go.
« on: 21 December 2010, 17:06:34 »

He has been secretly recorded boasting to undercover reporters about his own personal agenda, on several matters, including how he has personally declared war on Murdochs empire and is very proud of blocking its completion of the purchase of BSKYB.
His integrity, judgement, credibility and objectivity as business secretary is in tatters, and imo he is finished.
Personally I never believed the hype. I always thought he was a dickhead

Thought you were going to complain about your TV. ;D

But I don't disagree. That bloke is about as slippery as they come.

I am not a fan of Murdoch either. But for the business secretary to be caught boasting that he has declared war on his empire, leaves his position untennable.
There is also the fact that if Cable stays, Murdoch will probably unleash the dogs of war on the Tories and Libs at the next election, after the Tories have spent so long wooing him back from Labour.
If anything is to be done about Murdochs undue influence on the British media, it wont be by Cable doing it behind everyones back and then boasting about it to pretty young undercover female reporters. ;)

He's a prat of the first order.  Self-important, vacuous shallow little man who during the election was shown up for the halfwit he is and ever since has done nothing except whinge and bitch.   A plague on his houses!

I still think the best answer to Murdoch is getting rid of him

Although he has probably committed political suicide, he has undoubtedly echoed what many LibDems are feeling! ::) ::)

True, but it just shows what a bunch of idiots they are imo. They are lucky enough to have some power. By a fluke , they have ended up having quite a share in govt. even though they are very much a minority party, yet dont seem able to accept the fact that they are in coalition and cant have it all their own way.
Cable has also boasted that he could bring down the govt. and if the Tories dont give him enough of what he wants he will walk, and do just that.
As KW says - as slippery as they come.

Just announced, he is staying in his job, but any decisions regarding Murdoch have been transferred to the culture secretary - what a rather shambles. Cameron should grow a spine and tell Clegg that Cable is history for the sake of the credibility of the govt.

I never fancied him - believing him to be over-rated.

He seemed to be a man very much of the time during the worst days of the crunch but I suspected that he had little else in him.

He's certainly no statesman and in his recent prevarications he has, in my view, reinforced his Lib/Dem credentials.

On a sad note (and slightly off-topic I was saddened to learn of the death (on Sunday December 19th) of Tony Howard yet another old-school journalist.

Few today could match his style and measured analysis.

Ridiculous, I agree with Albs. his position is untenable, and if the coalition is to retain credibility with the voters, they should 'resign' him.  :-? :-? :-?

I would echo your sentiments on Tony Howard, Zulu. He had a genuine depth of understanding of political issues which is almost impossible to find these days. :(

Oh yes, indeed they are! ::) ::) ::)

They had a chance of being "something" at the top of British politics, but are now showing how weak and amateurish they are!  The LibDems will be 'dead' at the next election! :D :D ;)

Of course Cable should go, like you cut out a desease in the human body, so he is a desease in the politics of the Government >:( >:(
