the idiot who put the ceiling in the kitchen attic never put pipe covers over the water pipes so when it gets cold the water pipes freeze up, had to cut hole in ceiling and leave hair dryer in there and cold tap on until water comes out, 6 times at mo. :'( glad moving in 4 weeks ;D

Wondered if stuffing some loft lagging down the hole would help? Assuming yours is down the inspection cover in the drive like ours? Bolted to the mains stop cock....?

I beleive that everything upto and including the meter is the water company, everything after is your responsibility :y

if its the water meter or its outside the property boundary its the waterboard, anything else on  the property is down to you. as far as i am aware.

That reminds me - mine is like that (down a hole) but has a little polystyrene 'tube' around it with a polystyrene lid on it that you have to lift up (stab it with a screwdriver, seems to be the done thing, based on the holes in it) before you can see the meter..

Is everyone's like that? Never had a property with a water meter before :)
