I'm losing faith and interest (Football)
« on: 10 January 2011, 10:24:46 »

I have been losing interest lately in the beautiful game. The money that is involved is obscene and the antics of the 'stars' disgraceful. I, of course, contribute to this state of affairs by paying for sky sports. I almost cut my nose off to spite my face by cancelling it last month.
When Liverpool sacked Rafa Benitez, they had to honour his contract, which cost them £6 million. Today, I hear, that Roy Hodgson, after a few months in the job, has walked away with £7 million.
Laugh or cry?

I don't nor have ever really followed football. I've seen Bury play at Gigg Lane a hand full of time & been to Old Trafford for my lad's sake a couple of times, IMO football has forgotten about the diehard fans who would like to attend as many games as possible, shown in part with the cost of watching a game. It's too much of a buisiness now to pay £1000's / week to the players.

I find it really amusing, as expected of a toffee!

I get your point though and was pondering yesterday how players can complain of a lack of team / manager morale being responsible for poor performance. You can bet your ass I would give my all for 90 mins in every game for £150,000 a week!

My boss would not tolerate whinging and neither do I .

I think you may turn us over on sunday though

one of the reasons why i wouldnt support a premiershit  team   they are all money focused  whereas lower leagues are more football focused    either way though  i love football  i have all the sports channels and i pay to go to the games  and that is the way it will always be :y :y

Ah yes, "that time of year" when Esty realises the best team in the world are going to win bog all, arrives earlier and earlier each season for Liverpool it seems, and Esty is depressed as usual, where's the news?

It's not football Steve, it's Liverpool that's upsetting you! If they where top of the league you'd be your usual self, and no mistake!

However, that aside, and as a life long United fan, its a shame, I miss the rivalry, the competition, no point in a race if, during the premiership years, nobody else is running. Rich owners and oil barrons are no good for the game, so over all I would have to agree with you, tbh.  :'(

I don't know why people get so upset.  They buy the Sky subscription, the season tickets, the merchandise and the papers.  They fund the circus.

As for the wages players earn, good luck to them.  They may be uneducated halfwits that otherwise would have been raised in a youth offenders home, but when I look at some of the players I used to watch when I was a kid struggle to survive, or unable to walk because they're on a waiting list for a new knee, then I don't have any grudges about some kid earning thousands each week.  If they blow it all then tough luck, they had their chance.  Besides, there always was huge amounts of money in football.  The difference was the club owners used to cream large amounts off to fund their lifestyles.  And that was far worse in my opinion.
