However, it's not a permanent fixture, as Lotus has loaned the car to the force, so it will only be on the beat until they crash it for two weeks as part of a trial.

So, free testing for Lotus, free hire for the Police, free publicity for both. ;D

He was on the other night with the Motorway Police Camera Action thing. A modern day John Wayne, a legend in his own tea break, all he was short of was a pair of bloody spurs. What an obnoxious self opinionated tw@ he was. The kind of bloke you could poke his eye out with a pointed, shitty stick & walk away without a seconds thought.  :-X :-X :-X :-X

It's a waste of time in my view.

I would also tend to question the analysis;

Speaking to the 'Daily Mail', PC Angus Nairn said: "It's a very quick car and we hope it will prove an effective deterrent to anyone thinking of speeding or trying to outrun us.

It has incredible performance yet still does around 30 miles to the gallon. It will attract a lot of attention on the motorways but that is the whole idea - it will remind drivers of the need to keep to the speed limits at all times

Offenders, when they choose to run, will do so whatever the police do to try and prevent it.

Insofar as reminding drivers about posted speed limits, I thought that was the purpose in having posted speed limit signs in the first place.

Indeed, if they'll try and outrun a helicopter, they're hardly going to think twice about trying to outrun a plastic bathtub.. and if they really have nothing to lose, in punting it off the road to explode in a shower of fibreglass!

And it still wont stand a chance against any bike- 600cc or bigger- which decides to outrun it. Pointless excercise in the  massaging of this bloke sizeable ego imo.

Exactly. If they can drive it effectively it will keep up with most things, but it wouldn't exactly be up to nudging them off the road, blocking them from exiting the motorway, tearing off across a grass verge, etc.

Strikes me as a publicity stunt with zero value beyond that, and no doubt a bit of fun for those who feel the need to "familiarise" themselves with it.
