I treated myself to a chinese cheapy shaped like a small torch that fixes to the screen with a suction rubber & it came in handy two weeks later as I was sat parked keeping  the dogs company whilst swmbo was returning Christmas stuff that didn't fit etc! ::)
Ignore the date & timeline, these are notoriously difficult to set ( it happened on 8th January & luckily no major damage! :o) I'm getting another for the rear screen now, as I reckon it's only a matter of time....... :-/ :y

I have the "not so cheap" option fitted ... Roadhawk RH1

http://www.roadhawk.co.uk/

Must admit it works very well, and has saved me its cost already. As some of you know I was hit over a year ago, nothing major, but the "evidence" from the camera helped "convince" the other parties insurers that a stationary car cannot hit another vehicle.....  they therefore paid for the repairs in full...  :) .. only £400 .. but better from their pocket than mine, and of course my "no claims bonus" remains intact .. :)

The other car was not on the camera as the hit was to the rear quarter ... BUT the jolt of the impact and the sound of the impact were .... and the camera showed I was stationary at the time  ... QED  :)

A picture paints a thousand words. I believe also this would be good paractice as we all now everyones recollection can be different, as some things are remembered or in a different way. So who is right?
Investigations by the traffic division helps in many ways but having a live  recording of event can only be beneficial, and if they also have cameras onboard, then why should'nt the general driver?

On another note but on same topic,  None of us know what we will encounter as we leave our homes each minute, hour or day.  We all concentrate when we drive but there will be moments when there are momentary lapses in our concentration and things may not be our fault but things happens.
There I go again philosophising ::) ::) :-?
