It's been noisy for a while but the fan has finally packed up on our donkeys years old Worcester 24i (older cream one not the white one with the gay blue LED's). It's got part number 8 716 146 459 on a sticker bur can't find a listing for it anywhere. I've found 8 716 120 993 on eGay and it looks identical to this one. Any suggestions on getting one as cheap as possible?

I wouldn't mind but someone offered me an complete identical boiler a few weeks back as they were having a new 28CDi fitted and I didn't have it  bl00dy typical!

Have a close look at the fan, I would expect its the bearings failed.

If it is then some use a standard ball bearing setup which can be changed with care, others use a bronze bush which can also be repaired if not excessively worn

You were close Nick You'd found the 24i Junior ours is just the 24i. £75 +VAT!

I'd recently stripped it out and found the bearings (proper race tye bearings) were past their best. Greased them up  and re-assembled, it worked fine up until this morning. Looks like one of the bearings had siezed again but the motor was hot to the point of hearing it crackle  Left it all to cool down but the motor won't pull without assistance and if SWMBO thinks I'm standing there pushing it round so she can have a shower tonight she has another thing coming

Is that working against the goosed bearings though?

The single phase shaded pole induction motors have bugger all starting torque and hence are not capable of overcoming any resistance to rotation, a goosed bearing would stop rotation.

There pretty bullet proof TBH so the fact it turns at all tells a story

Yes it is. I'll strip it back down again when I get home and have a look for a pair of bearings online. For a laugh I called the local parts distributor for Worcester Bosch.... £107 +VAT I, of course, declined their offer of shipping it to me on a 9am delivery

Well after much tinkering I've managed to get both roller bearing sets out of this damn fan. Rear bearing is lumpy but moderately smooth, front bearing, however, is rock hard and when it does turn grinds like hell!

Bit of googling and I can get them from RS for an amazing £2.26 each +VAT! That's a lot better than £107 +VAT!!!!!

RS will probably be an order job (the trade counters dont tend to stock bearings..

I also rate simply bearings who do next day delivery

Also, check yell.com for a local bearing supplier

Our boiler's electronics went AWOL in 2009.  £120 (IIRC) for replacement new part.  £30 for refurbed part from these people.  They are based in the Watford area - as I was working near there, a quick collect and return of old part - simples

What size are they? I'm sure that stores will have some suitable back-up spares I might be able to help.

metric or imperial Lee, it can't be both 
1/4" is about 6.3mm so would be a rattling good fit on a 6mm shaft.
