What would be needed to start a tyre company up, Company Name (Got that), Premises (Will be getting another premises soon), tyres (Need), tyre machine (Need), van (got that) what else to think of  :-? Where do I get the cheap tyres from, but new tyres? Staff got those my two sons, it's just a brainwave at the minute, and of course a discount to all OOF members

Del... Tyres is a cut-throat market! Sure you want to get into that?

If you do... You need a bigger van than the Ashtray for a start! Other than that I would say invest in the best balancing equipment you can justify and get a fully pneumatic tyre changer... It's much easier to work with

Should have added... You need Air tools, 2/4 post Ramps/lots of trolley jacks, Torque wrenches, sockets and alloy wheel sockets (these have a special sleeve to protect the wheels, Breaker bars for when some rock ape at kan't fit has gunned the wheel nuts up, etc, etc...

What about mobile valeting?
Astravan is probably big enough for most things.
I think with tyres, you have to be the cheapest to get your name out there.
What about the number plate making you'd considered? I'm not sure what other vehicle/motoring idea there is?

My black Astra Van was a valeters van before I had it, these are purely ideas at the minute. Number plates I still want to do that, but not just yet.

i like the idea mate, but your going to have problems undercutting the big players. Need to shift lot of tyres to make any big money.

Maybe go into car breaking if you have premises? Go into everything, just list them on eBay as being broken (cheap)

Give you son Halfords tool kit (150 set) tell him you want it in bits by the end of the day

i take mine to the guys up homebase. ten quid for mini vat (clean inside and out)

I have a couple of places I use, both run by "foreigners" but do a fantastic job. I had a Full Valet done on mine in September before we went away and it was £65. Carpets, headlining and mats shampooed, leather cleaned and treated, engine bay degreased, all plastics and glass treated, tyres treated, pressure and hand wash, full hand polish. Oh... And they even got some horrible tar like substance I had picked up somewhere off the N/S of the car

Oh... And an air freshener

Also, it gave me free parking for a couple of hours while I was shopping in Ipswich (worth about £4/5)

I find it very therapeutic cleaning polishing the car (inside and out) myself but it takes me about 2 days when I get into it... Just don't have the time (or the weather!) at the moment so it'll be getting a quick inside and out before the Hampshire meet

Big difference in doing your own car when "in the mood" and having to do 20 cars on the trot, to the same high standard, no matter what your mood. One of the "downsides" to self employment is the idea that you work "when you want to" .... if you want the money you work when your customers want you to !!!

del there are a few cut price tyre dealer in this part of kent...set tyres maidstone...forumla one (which are part of a massive chain)...could you buy the amount of tyres to match these prices....saying that there are not any good £ 10 inside and out merchants...they are around but they are all rubbish...apart from sgt bills upon hempstead

thing is i havent got any power cleaning kit. they run about 5 jet washers over it (presumably all with various cleaning agents in) and the whole lot takes 10 mins.

me on my own would take 3 hours.... then again that does include stopping for beers

also there are places like costco that do tyres/fitting. i havent been in the tyre section but presumably theyre heavily discounted?!?
