E Bay seller !
« on: 03 February 2011, 18:40:28 »

My son purchased a set of alloy wheels complete with tyres from e bay last weekend, they were delivered today.
They were described as SEAT LEON alloys,(his car is a Seat Leon) in the posting, upon unwrapping they were aftermarket trw,not what he wanted.
Now these wheels cost him more than £400+£50 p+p,what should his first action be to reclaim his monies. He paid via paypal.

the way i see it is if they fit a seat leon and are advertised as seat leon alloys then theres no problem but if hes advertised them as genuine seat leon alloys thats a diff kettle of fish, check the listing properly and see if there is any discrepences in the item listed and the item you recieved but tbh it sounds like hes bought some seat leon alloys as advertised :-/

Wasn't there a picture/s of the wheels in the listing? If so, are the wheels the same as the ones in the listing? :-/

please if possible can you find out the ebay listing for me or the item number, alloy wheels is a category i'm highly familiar with, i'd like to know if there are photos on the listing and whether the ones he received are the same as pictured

but either way, if the alloys are not as described he needs to tell the seller they are "significantly not as described" and ask politely for a return address, send them by a tracked courier, you should then be offered a refund.

ebay and paypal should be able to help, providing they're definately "significantly not as described" regardless as to whether the seller states that they dont refund

Did he buy them unseen? as in no pictures?

Despite what's been said here I have found that ebay/Paypal do the minimum amount possible. If goods are returned under the resolution process, it is the buyer who is responsible for the return postage, which I think is wrong as if goods weren't as described the buyer wouldn't have bought them, hence not be out of pocket for return potage.

As others have said, if they have come off a Seat Leon, and will fit a Seat Leon, and have been described as such, then unfortunately it doesn't appear there is any comeback. Unless of course they have been described as 'genuine', 'oem' or the like.

Unfortunately, as I know, it all comes down to the wording, which in this case favours the seller. It's always worth trying though.

IME Paypal/Ebay aren't worth a light... I always pay Paypal with my Credit Card so I have some comeback through them, although still a battle. Luckily I've only had to experience the dispute system for small purchases.

Any chance of a link to the ebay listing? We'll be able to interpret the wording ourselves then :y

A bit of a result, the seller has offered a refund, but  wants the cost of returning them to be paid by my son.

i would say challenge it

has the seller actually admitted a misleading description? if so then the seller should foot the bill, on a moral level of course, ebay probably wont help

TBH, unless the ad said "Genuine" or "OEM" that is the best that can be hoped for ;) ;)
