Indie has been going on since the mid 90's (ish). the bands you mention are more recent, some are ok. You're not into indy, that's fine but what are you into?
I'm into bands/artists that actually play instruments at least indy/britpop bands played & relieved the world of the dance bollix that prevailed the 80's/90's. I find Rap pap equally as irritating but worse because of thier egos/bling etc. What's all this uh uh about? They "sing" about how hard/cool they are & respec.
Not from me, dickheads the lot of them & not a musician among them.
ALL boybands sound like poofters even though girls fancy them & most can't actually play anything & for some reason i can't stand the Beautiful South, they really make my shit itch!!!

Indie came from the very early 80's. My music collection includes the likes of REM, Blue Aeroplanes through to Elbow. I am, you might call, a pretty big indie fan (albeit a Smith's free one - I never bought into the fawning adulation of Morrisey's miserable whingeing). Which is exactly why I find the likes of Pigeon Detectives so abysmal. The recent history of indie music is plattered with bland, semi-manufactured, talentless vomit hurled out by uninspiring little halfwits.
I always think of this skit when third rate indie groups like Kooks or Scouting for Girls get mentioned.

I'm just realizing how divided indie can be after all these years. I'd never thought of it like that but ye you have a point. Some of todays offerings are a little limp wristed in comparison to Primal Scream, Suede, Republica et all.
Not indie as such but from the same era are:- Psychadelic Furs ( a personal fave), Fun loving Criminals, Crowded House,Happy Mondays, The Levellers & Waterboys, the cult, Echo & the bunnymen...& more.
More recently i reckon the Foo Fighters have really got it going on...more rock than indie...
& this back in the days when indie still had a hanging pair of... Simple, crude even but it worked.
