HGV CPC/NVQ update.
« on: 26 February 2011, 22:13:51 »

Had to attend another school session this morning as did both the gaffers. Some of you previously asked about horseboxes. Fresh from the horses mouth today(sorry for the pun) i was told that despite taking your equinnes to said event even on a private (hobby) basis you'd think you'd be excempt as not hire or reward. Not hire as you're not turning a coin but as you're entering your horse in the hope of winning said event that counts as a reward so if you don't get your hours in your HGV entitlement will end in 2014.

I know this is bang out of order & there's no need for it. Juuast another way to screw us down & more non jobs for those that implement such pointless shite but i do remember one or two of you asking previously so this is hot off the press.

Sadly mate they weill have to pay privately for some so & so to patronize them. For example today we were told how to speak to people, body language etc.

Oh frickin' please, he spent nearly an hour telling us to phone our office if there's a problem so the customer know's we're trying to help!!

He made a big fuss of the fact he's an ex Stobbart driver much to our merriment.

I'm nearly 24..ok  48. I first drove for a coin as a 13 year old boy driving a K reg petrol Bedford CF several miles to our first call helping the milkman while he caught up on his bookwork, anyone remember Unigate? in rural W. Sussex for £1 a day @ w'ends & school hols.

Bit late in the day for some Norbert to tell me how to suck eggs & yet another expense for my gaffer so no hope of a pay rise after 7 years.

Yet another non job. Sorry for the moan but i'm sick of it. Guy. :(

i run for a family run business of now 114 yrs, i have the 2nd or the 5 modules now so only 3 to do.

i did one at my last employer and must say the whole system can be rigged and i'm sure there are some get togethers out there who will not even turn up to do the modules but still pass if you know what i mean,

this will not improve much in transport, but saying that it may improve the flaming road sense of those coming into this dying trade of HGV or LGV or what ever some pencil pushing numpty will call it next year.

I'M class 1 so bog off back to belgium and sort out you other neighbours if you get my drift.

just another cash cow idea for these thieving governements

so ends the reading lol :y

wonder how long before the insurance companies jump on this?
oh - you nipping to the shop for a bottle of milk and a lottery ticket?
That's using your car for hire or reward, and you;re not covered for that, so we're not paying your claim...

Thing is, you would only be taking a horse in the hope of a 'reward' if you were taking it to a race meet. The only reward you are likely to get at any other equine event would be a rossette. Therefore I would say racehorses are a business not a hobby and transportation of the animal does come under 'reward'.

Horse lorries tend to be 7.5 ton or under (10 ton downgraded), you obviously need the appropriate licence to be able to drive them (unless your an old codger like me where the licence covers you from 21). Personally, seeing the shocking standards of most drivers these days i'm glad they're not allowed to drive a horse lorry.

Im a full UK national CPC holder, not a driver but I have worked as a transport planner/manager for quite a few years.

I can honestly say that I believe regardless of what could be won in a contest, im sure I would hope that a VOSA officer would act sensibly if he came up against a story like this.

Unfortunatly a lot of Horse boxes/trailers are old and very poorly maintained as they are very rarely used and are not shown the same amount of love that the horses are.

Yes that does seem to be a problem, a bit like caravans they sit around for 6 months of the year with little or no use.

They are a huge investment - check out the prices both new and used, but ultimately just a method of transporting your horse... unless of course your lucky and rich enough to have one with a sleeping / living area. Costing such a large amount of money does mean that used ones are big sellers.

Horse trailers are often less well maintened than the lorries (at least the lorry has to have an MOT and be plated). there have been a number of accidents where the floor of the trailer has rotted and given way to the weight of the horse while the whole lot was moving.

There will always be poor drivers in all cases :( In this case it definitely is an HGV, by brother has a Class 1 for 24 years so no worry to him but my sister in law had to do her HGV to drive it. She passed first time but the previous box was 7.5T and she drove that for thousands of miles, it is out just about every weekend for much of the year...
