Watched the film "The Boat That Rocked" last night (very good incidentally) and it reminded me of just how great and influential the likes of Radio Caroline, Radio London etc. were in the 60's. They gave a lot of artists breaks that they wouldn't have got on the BBC's Light Programme at the time. They also spawned some great DJ personalities such as Kenny Everett, Johnny Walker, DLT etc. Kind of makes you wonder where music would be today without the pirates of those great days and we only had the Beeb. :-/

Was the best in my opinion.
I'm sure they had two ships broadcasting, one covering the south and one covering the north of England.

No, they were banned from broadcasting from English terratorial waters many years ago and moved to a location just off the Dutch coast iirc, but don't know where they are located now. :-/

Use to listen to Caroline and Radio Luxembourg, in my younger days, very younger days!. Use to travel a lot around Europe so them two stations were my savior to the UK.

If I was lucky enough to be near Central Europe you could pick Radio Luxembourg on FM at Night, fairly sure Caroline and Mi Amgio use to pop up now and then on Short Wave, otherwise I'd be waiting on BBC World Service for the DJ Rosko Radio slot.

Ah, they were fun days.

Interesting, I didn't know that. Looking on their website it looks like they only make virtual broadcasts now, but are campaigning for MW/FM broadcasting rights.

Ah yes.......I remember as a kid listening to Luxembourg on my transistor radio under the bed sheets at night when my parents thought I was asleep. Tony Prince, emperor Rosko.....

Oh yes the good old days, the red plastic radio with the side thumb dial, ,,,,I used to listen to radio north sea international as well, dont know where they originated from though, (apart from on a boat in the north sea of course) .

For under the bed sheets it was the Sinclair Micromatic, for the Europe trips it was the trusty Grundig Yatch Boy.

My wifes uncle used to own Radio Caroline, it was his first radio station, and he has loads now. He must be in his 70s but still works mega hard, thats probably why he's a millionaire and i'm not
