Confused by specs
« on: 30 May 2007, 18:25:05 »

Had a look at a locally advertised car today.

It was an 02 2.6 CDX in star silver, 70k last service at 69k and about 14k short of a cambelt change (obviously much less than that if I get it).

What I don't quite understand is:

* No rear blind (when were these discontinued?)

* Philips CD system fitted. (Is Bose only available on the Elite? What's the Philips like?)

* It had a rear spoiler, yet another CDX on a 51 plate I looked at didn't have one. What's the story on these?

Chap is asking £3995 and could be persuaded to take my 95 2.5 in P/X for £250. Very tempted.

Incidentally, I'm due to get back to guy with the 18k mileage Omega 2.6 tomorrow. He's removed it from the web while he "verifies the mileage".

If you're confused by your specs, go and see your local optician :y

i was under the impression bose and sundblind were on elite as standard, but plenty of stuff can be an optional extra for the right price!

the spoiler may possibly have been added after it left the showroom

what kind of spoiler is it? i believe the elite standard spoiler is made by prodrive, which is what my GLS now has, irmscher make a slightly similar lip-style spoiler too

It's a lip-style spoiler. Car has been owned by Vauxhall Fleet Management, so probably unlikely to be aftermarket addition.

lip spoiler (on saloon) is made by irmscher. Fitted as standard on retail elites, after-market fitment otherwise. The spoiler on pre and mini-facelift estates is made by irmscher, on facelifts it's made by prodrive - although irmscher do one for aftermarket fitment.

Philips CD player ... not sure what the standard head units on facelifts are badged ... but the early elites had a philips amplified system, the precursor to the bose setup ???

The blind was dropped late on in production ... around 2002-ish ...

rear spoiler was not standard but optional extra, phillips is good but obviously no bose - bose on elite only as standard.

Again on the rear blind i think thats an optional on cdx.

Hope this helps

Yep, that helps.

Probably don't need the blind. It was very useful when my little ones were in a rear-facing car seats, but I won't miss it too much.

The lip spolier looks good - definitely improives the look of the car IMHO.

Would love a Bose system but I think I could live with a Philips. It's probably on a par with the Kenwood system I've had for the last six years, or maybe not. :-/

Can't type, won't type.

I meant a lip spoiler improving the car

(before anyone notices the appalling typos  ;))

Rear blind was dis-continued around 2002, but an easy plug in.

Sounds CDX spec, as long as it has HID's. Bose only on Elites...

Tunnie, thanks for that. So, in theory, I could take the blind out of my old car and put i in the new one? The only snag is the aperture for the blind and the different speaker setup on the CDX back parcel shelf.

Probably too much trouble. I'm shifting the old one because I don't have too much time to play about with cars these days.

Yes should be plug and play with the shelf... does this CDX have the philips speakers on the parcel shelf then? Must have had a sound upgrade then, but not the full bose.

At 2002 its getting to the last ones, so they might have chucked a few extra things in!
