True  :)

However i dont remember cars of years ago that ive driven that didnt have power steering, being that heavy on the steering  :o I felt like i'd had a session in the gym after driving the skudo for fifty miles.
Worse car i can remember for heaving steering (with no power steering) was a Mk3 Golf GTi.

Maybe im just getting weak  ::) ;D

Well.....bit more than just a broken aux belt  :(....alternator bearing seized, pulley snapped off, hence the aux belt fell off.
Oh well.....alls mended now  :y

Quite obviously, models with power steering have a different ratio rack to those without power steering..... so a car with failed PAS pump is going to be much heaver than the equivalent model which was designed without PAS.

To further clarify, (generally speaking) a car with PAS fitted from the manufacturer will have less steering wheel turns 'lock-to-lock' than a identical model without PAS.  :y

plus while the steering pump isn't helping, you've to turn against the fluid in the system. An Astra G  with power steering is incredibly hard to drive while its electric pump isn't running.

My Scudo threw its aux belt yesterday (friday) lost charging and power steering  took 15 mins to work out how new belt goes on and then 5 mins and a 15mm spanner to replace  i wonder if it had anything to do with the heat?

It might have been the extra strain if the belt was 'tired' and you had the a/c on. However, my belt snapped/came off coz the bearings in the alternator siezed. Apparantly, not uncommon once you get above 100k miles  ::)
