Satellite finder
« on: 16 June 2011, 21:53:11 »

Does any one use a satellite finder when setting up their dish when caravanning?

If so, what do you recommend?

I use one of these .. very simple to use

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Konig-Satellite-Signal-Meter-Finder-Sat-Freesat-Sky-/200466641774?pt=UK_ConEle_SatCableFreeview_RL&hash=item2eacbe336e

Beware there are many cheaper copies of similar looking things on the bay. I only recommend the Konig, well made and reliable.

Any of them work, but you can do easily without with practice (no necessarily perfect, but good enough for a 2 week holiday without picture breakup).

The Sky box's own signal strength meter can help, just be aware its desperately slow to respond though - so small tweak, leave for 15s, before retweaking.

Also, I believe taking your Sky box and using elsewhere (ie, caravan) is against their T&Cs (certainly was when I called them to check).  That said, they'd be a bunch of muppets to try to actively stop you....

Our van had that, at least ;) Well the second one (I only really remember that one) - two panes of plastic separated by an air gap.

This was back in the late 80's, although it was a German van (since that's where we were living at the time) - maybe they were more advanced ;D (just not in the entertainment stakes)
