Like Varche and Omegatoy, we opted for a life outside the UK and boy did we strike lucky.
I grew up in a small village that has now become part of greater London, well it seems like it, Crowthorne, home of Broadmoor hospital!! After that, joined up and was in Plymouth for a good few years, enjoyed that at the time. Posted up to Scotland, Arbroath, smallish town but very busy. Fell in love with the Angus Glens, used to escape there as much as possible with the boys when they were little.
Moved further out into Angus farming country, small village called Letham, 1 hotel, 1 pub, 1 Spar shop, nice quiet-ish life.
Now, it couldn't be more tranquil. On the eastern edge of the end of the Sierra Nevada on a south facing mountainside called the Alpujarras.... back garden faces south as well, occasional dog barking, the moorish built church bells ring only during daylight hours apart from midnight, eagles/falcons and lower down, bee eaters, larks and on a sunday plenty of cars as all the relatives of the old uns that live here appear for a knees up. Loving it
