So long, and thanks for all the fish...
« on: 21 June 2011, 09:56:39 »

Sad report from IPSO - overfishing, climate change and pollution is leading to mass extinction on an unprecedented scale, oceans turning into lifeless acid -of course as soon as humans die out oceans will recover - but i kinda like fish in the meantime  :(

The clues were there years ago when that Italian ship looking for somewhere to dump toxic waste was turned down by various countries bordering the med etc until finally it got permission to dump in the North Sea.

We haven't looked back since. Out of sight out of mind. :y

The usual culprits of self-serving NGOs and envrionmental activists like Greenpeace (again!), WWF, Friends of the Earth and the Pew Group are behind the shadowy group ("IPSO") that came up with this. Oh yes, and GLOBE International as well. Took them all of a three-day "workshop" to string it together.  ;D

Two key quotes from their report:

It is clear that the traditional economic and consumer values that formerly served society well, when coupled with current rates of population increase, are not sustainable.

This has to be part of a wider re-evaluation of the core values of human society and its relationship to the natural world and the resources on which we all rely.

Scientifically orientated, or politically motivated?   ::) ::)

Filed in the junk drawer. ;) ;D ;D

Because I wasn't aware I was a redneck (well, unless I go out in the sunlight, I burn like you wouldn't believe) or had a particular problem with immigrants (I work with an office full of them from all over the world - and they're some of the smartest and hardest working people I've ever met, although so are the Brits I work with so perhaps the company is atypical..) ;)
