The Bank of England has promised to double the amount of £5 notes available from ATMs after complaints:

The one in our local shop (free though) has a maximum withdrawal of £50 and only dispenses £5 notes... Part of the "Save our Fivers" campaign or something

It must be over 25 years ago when I last got, or even wanted a £5 note from a caspoint machine.

Money for old rope. Spanish banks charge 4% if you withdraw from a different (to your own) bank. More money for old rope.............

I seem to remember the supermarkets gave cash back for free as it helped them have less volumes of cash on the premises.

Sometimes, 'things' are so tight at Deb`s towers that less than £10. is all that can be had from the account; so I can be very grateful when £5. notes are offered. :y

Banks handing out larger denomimation notes was just a ploy to get you to spend more. If tha cash is in your pocket your more likely to spend it, which means if your in an over draft situation the banks are on a winner.
I'm glad that fivers are being handed out now a hundred pound float can be wiped out very quickly when every one is giving you tens and twentys
