Away in van
« on: 03 September 2011, 23:40:02 »

Just been away in my caravan to the lakes for 2 nights. It's only a small 2 berth 892kg mgw but only managed 17.7 mpg. That was down the a1 to scotch corner then along the a66 (in the elite, my favourite, no towbar on mv6 since I swapped it). It still shifted though, putting it in sports mode going up the hills it was out pulling most things!  I tell ya what though, some people shouldn't be on the road. Unfortunately there was a crash at Stainmore with 1 dead, glad I missed that. Only got to lose the blisters now. Thought I'd worn my boots in but obviously not.

So about £71 in petrol? Without you could have got 30mpg, over the course of say 200 miles that, so £40 in fuel....

Thats almost 1 nights stay in a B&B in extra fuel alone!

We went to the lakes 2 weeks ago.  Came back via Swansea.  1395 miles altogether, 26.8 mpg @ 36 mph overall.  Not too unhappy about that. :)

Oh, and aircon on all the way! :D :D :D

Caravans rule!

My caravan is old, and unlike the shape of the newer ones where they slope upwards and backwards to help the aerodynamic properties. I think this whacked the mpg. 26.8 seems very good though. Although saying that I didn't go slower than 50/60 depending on the road. It powered up the hills and all that would've whacked the mpg.

I've never heard of a Bnb for £40 a night especially not in the lakes. Caravans are better though. It's like a home from home. It's better because it seems more wild/out in the sticks/at one with nature haha etc etc!

I want s motorhome now to pull the van with
