Advice on computer privacy and children
« on: 11 September 2011, 12:50:29 »

Only account we did not know the password on is our 14 year old daughters facebook account.

I have managed to get the password and the changed password when she found out, she has changed it on another PC and will not tell us the password.

Do you think it is fair that we know the facebook account password of our 14 year old daughter on our PC?

That depends on your daughter, Martin, you know her better than we do.

She is pretty mature but can get silly.

As I said to her, our home, our PC and I am responsible for the PC

My lads 15 and a stroppy tinker (normal teenager)

But to be honest Martin, I think its one step too far to want her password.

I can understand why you would though but imho sometimes you just have to swallow hard and loosen the reins a little.

I have promised my 12 year old lad, who has aspergers, his first mobile phone for Christmas. I will be tempted to sneak a look at his text messages, but I doubt I will.

Comprimise reached - she can't out techie me!

We have her password somewhere safe, and we will only check if she gives us permission or if we have problems.

She has no diary, anyway diaries are properly private and not posted on the internet.

Actually it is more to safeguard her not to control her - been a suicide at her school recently :'( :'(

My daughter who is reading this with me agrees but she does understand our reasoning.
