don't know thirsk area well so can't suggest anywhere there...but what about services just off a1 at whetherby??

Better than that, 10 minutes up the B1224 towards Wetherby there's a pub called the Chequers Inn, which is excellent. If they're open, I've tended to be there on a Sunday lunchtime.
