how do you drain the fuel tank on a dti
« on: 20 October 2009, 20:36:15 »

can anyone help me with the draining of the fuel tank on the wife's old dti estate as there is about £60 of fuel in it and next week she will be ready to go as we have now got the log book for the new one and can move the plate over.

it's a 100% loss from the insurance side of things but can be fixed why do you ask?

If it was a scrapper, the easiest way would be to make a hole in the tank & let it all drain out.

some nut was cutting a tree down and did not ask the wife to move it to another place in the car park. It has damage to roof on nearside and screen has gone got hold of an 02 dti elite now but still have the old one on the drive until the plate comes off next week. is there anyway i can drop the tank and get the fuel out and then put the tank back in so the car can be used by someone else

Thanks Lee for the link :)

I would jack the arse up & have a shufty underneath as to what holds the tank in place. I've been under mine a few times & never looked :-?
I wouldn't imagine it would be a hard job to drop the tank off :-/

2 pipes and an electrical connection inder the plate in the boot, 2 x 16mm nuts holding the straps and another breather near the filler neck.

Pain to take it all out for a bit of diesel, jack the ar$e up, take the plate up out of the boot, unscrew the lift pump cover ring and syphon it out :y

Surely there has to be a method of getting fuel to it the injector pump and maintain a minimum pressure?
