Estate rear wiper - OOF top tip
« on: 02 December 2009, 14:48:53 »

I've had 2 Omega estates now and on both of them the rear windscreen wiper misses parts of the screen due to the curvature, even with new blades.
Lifted the wiper arm off the screen and applied a good squirt of WD40 to the hinge and spring and now clears the screen perfectly. :y

Yes, works well.

Sometimes bending the arm further into the car helps as well.

They can work properly with just a little playing  :y

I would use an effective lubricant rather than WD40.....

Which ever you prefer.......you might find WD40 easier to spray on your back but careful you dont slip off the wardrobe as a result!

As for the wiper arm....a good light oil or penetrating spray would be better.

A drop of cod liver oil might work well on both the wiper and the bones then.  ;D

Errr, wish it was that easy!!
Had VX dealer fit new wipers all round, VX's own (tad pricey, too!!) and the rear one was sheeite!, clearing less than half the screen!.  >:(
Went back twice, each time they changed it, but still total pooh. Ended up with a refund, and bought Mr Tesco's flat ones which DO do the job better, but not perfect.  :)  (Also, half the price!)
(Also tried the much vaunted 'Bosch' & 'Valeo' both of which leave a nice uncleaned arc in the centre of rear screen as well!!)  :-[

Agreed, for those who like most of the properties of WD40, and think it has some that it actually doesn't... may I suggest a can of "Ambersil 40+" .. 'tis excelent stuff :)

Spec sheet :   http://www.alan-godrich.co.uk/images/DATA%20SHEETS/40PLUS_data.pdf

and its less than £5 a can .. :)

Talking of rear wipers, does everybody else's just constantly fill up with spray as you drive along on a wet road or if it's raining? Or is it just the ones with the rear spoiler - gets on my nerves a bit, could do with a constant wipe sometimes instead of intermittent as well.
