ssn being the Autobahn stormers quarterly magazine.

This is very timely as i've a problem with mine being partly blocked, but thats the thing, the guide shows the atual box itself dismantled with the side plat spotweld drilled out to reveal two baffles.

The shape of the baffles is such that its bot possible for the box to block one breather outlet or the other, as mine appears to be blocked on the smaller pipe only, clearly i've not understood something or i have a differant box design, which seems unlikely as the only differance mentioned in the guide is the gaskit itself which incorporates the flap or is presumanly seperate on later cars, ie mine. Maybe the flap has broken off and blocked mine as the flap is on the small pipe side?

Anyway just wanted to say thanks Andy Clears for his efforts and that having seen that the side plate glue is not attavhing the box to the back of 1,3,5 head but is in fact seperate altogether i'll be having a go at cleaning it out asap.

Mine arrived today - you beat me to it!

My small pipe was blocked, but pushing a pin down the hole cleared it out nicely. I then sprayed masses of carb  cleaner down both holes.

I'd already drained the oil from my car so was amazed at just how much crud came out of the sump drain hole - but looking at the design of the insides it seems that I've probably filled one of the internal corners with carb cleaner - if you get my drift.

Perhaps another way of doing it would to to lay it down in a tray of parrafin - that should wash the crud out if left for a while. It would also save the hassle of drilling the weld spot out & repairing it afterwards.

Wonder how much a new breather box is? Could fit a new one and clean the old one at your leisure then.

Must admit to reading Mr. C's write up and thinking it might be an idea to get another, clean and service that and make sure all is well then swap it out with the one on the engine.

I've seen ordinary bathroom sealent used for exhausts before now, it works quite well apparently  :-/

Yes, because it's silicon and therefore heat resistant to bloody-silly-ow-ow-ow hot!

I would think it would be OK to use, but downside is you don't know what's getting squeezed inside when you clamp the two halves back together.
Failing that, Bostik Matrix 500 - hundreds of uses from helping used O rings to seal to sticking a GRP-faced side back on a race trailer!
