MPG Cruising at 80?
« on: 09 July 2010, 17:50:57 »

Did a 100 mile run to Cavan today. All motorway cruising MID showing between 25-32 MPG depending on the road.

What do v6's normaly get cruising at 80mph?

About 30 MPG is probably on the money IMHO.

I had same issue for tax when i was contracting, my 2.2 was being more economical than the 1.6-2.0 band! I got about 30-34 mpg average, and they wanted 25-28 for above 2.0 petrol  :(

'creative' accounting did it for me  ::)

30 mpg sounds about right in a 3.0 sitting at 80 mph :

Mrs' old 2.5 did 35mpg on a run at about 75-80mph ;)

That's why I bought a Jan '01 x-reg, about as late as you can get and still be exempt from the new rules  ;)

It's nice to win one for a change...

Damn, that's even better than my 36.5mpg for the first gallon I used driving away from a trackday (where I got 7mpg).

The whole 140 mile trip home was 35.5 mpg, which was mostly 70mph roads, with some stop starting.

I reckon I could have had 38 if it'd been a manual and I could properly feather the go-pedal.

750 miles in the turbo'd dti omeeegah and the average is 46.
on a motorway run with the trip reset its over 50,can't see me buying a v6 when the diesels so good  :D

and tbh theres not much difference in the performance between the 2.5 2.6 v6 and the turbo dti imo  :P

One the actual 80mph bit, mid 30s is acheivable on 3.0l auto, but any urban stuff soon eats into this.

Over a 10 day, 2000m holiday to south of France, I returned 32mpg, and did see the magical 500m from a tank on the autoroutes on the way...   ...too many 130mph stints prevented any 500m from a tank stunts on the way home....

Tbf, I've not reset my trip for about 3 weeks, mix of urban & motorway, 4 days a week on the M11 between the M25 & cambridge at about 5:30am is a reasonable speed run, seems to be stuck at 27.
iirc that was about the same for my old 3.0 auto on a P plate too

Went from M1 j25 Long Eaton down to M1 j15 Nothampton today at 55mph on cruise, as we slowed down on the slip road the display was showing 41.8mpg for that run

Averaged out at 35.6mpg over both ways though cos I had it at 75-85mph coming back......

I rarely reset my fuel computer (generally only when battery comes off).

Over 4000 miles, I averaged around 25mpg on petrol. On the last 2500 on gas, fuel computer reads 22mpg (though reality is around 20mpg).  Thats a day-to day use, not many long runs.  And often sparing the horses ::)
