What fuel do you use?
« on: 15 August 2010, 08:25:11 »

For the V6 people of course! :D

Supermarket petrol I am staying clear of, I have just switched to Shell and am a member of the drivers club. :D
You do have to spend £45,000 before you're eligible for a free 10p mix of sweets but I am convinced there fuel is better and lasts longer!

I have heard that this supermarket fuel has 15% ethanol, which is 12% more than what Shell use.

Whilst on the subject of fuel, does anyone run their diesel omega on cooking oil?  :y

Also considering an LPG conversion, saw it advertised for £900 in one day, I think that's the best offer I have seen so far.

I'm doing at least 1k a week - as i only get 20p/mile I fill up at Morrisons/tesco/asda... (clubcard & Morris miles!!) and reliably get >28MPG... (mostly mway - "Normal driving  :y") ... On the few occasions i filled up at shell ect i did notice a slight increase in mpg (30.4)... and the car seems to run better... but i'm not sure it justifies the extra 6p/lt...

Blue Diesel ? Wassat?... Not Kero surely?

When i lived in wales - it wass'nt unknown for the occasional tank of red to find its way into the landrover of a local farmer (who was well known for being a bit "warm" around a pound note!)...
My mate ran his Citroen on cooking oil - Just filtered - but i gather the PSV engine has a heating jacket on the fuel filter (start on normal deisel & switch when warm)
... Although it was like following a chip shop !

For me I just use unleaded from any garage, including supermarkets, offering it at the best price as I have found over many years no difference at all in performance or car maintenence needs. ;) ;)

A mate of mine runs his Veccy on vegetable oil mixed with Jet A-1 from.. wait for it.. The local Police helicopter. :o

They have to take a daily sample of fuel from both their fuel bowser and the aircraft tanks to be stored in case it needs to be used as evidence and when they've finished with it they give it to him. ;D

I use Shell V-Power 93 octane in all my cars, except our little 2.5 I4 Cutlass Ciera... that gets 89 octane. V-Power seems to work the best, especially when I had my supercharged Pontiac Bonneville, plus it only has 10% ethanol or less.

I use super in the BMW and you really can notice a difference in it. Other cars have been less noticeable, excluding the SAAB.
