But .. but.. it's electric (well, hybrid I suppose as it's turbine generator powered). It'll just go 'whoooosh' as you go along instead of (like a proper car should) 'ROOOAARRGGHHH' :(

It's the future whether you like it or not.  You could get a sound system to replace the noise if you wish  :D

Dont forget that Jaguar have a history of developing things which become standard on other cars later.  Disc brakes is a good example  :y

Maybe true.. but you'll have to pry my internal combustion engine out of my cold, dead hands (or, when we run out of petrol.. which almost certainly won't be in my lifetime) ;)

Yep electric - IIRC from the video I saw it's got 4 x 175kW motors (one for each wheel, naturally) which get their power from two turbine electric generators (not quite sure what kind of process the generators run on; whether they're gas turbines or fuel cell somethings etc)..

But yeah, apparently someone at Tata told someone in Jaguar to go and design a new XJ220 (at least that's what the shape reminds me of..)

Technology-wise JLR have spent a huge amount of time over the last few years in researching alternative power systems with significant work undertaken by the likes of Ricardo for them.  This concept isn't the end result of all that though, it's more of a pipe-dream to get column inches, but the company is pretty serious about making inroads into this area.  From my personal perspective though the auto industry has currently got a very real reluctance to make The Big Decision and push a model range that is a real break away from traditional power.  For all the marketing hype surrounding the likes of the Prius etc they are very much fancy dressing to get people's attention.  It's a justified reluctance too as the infrastructure to support electric power or hydrogen power or whatever else just isn't there, and won't happen unless the cars get built.  Chicken, eg, and all that.

As far as the styling is concerned, it's quite pretty but that's daming it with faint praise, as Jags should be jaw-dropping and this concept thing just doesn't do that.  If that was announced tomorrow as the new XK then it would be very nice and people would buy it.  I would if I could.  But sports cars from Jaguar were always a bold move and this looks ike a today car, not a tomorrow spaceship.
