My omega pulls away very lightly on the idle speed. as far as im aware thats what they do. unless your idle is running too high?

it idle's at about 750 but is fighting the brake all the time & when you pull off it has a delay off about 1 second before it does anything. :-/

There should be enough 'drag' on it to hold the car on a hill without rolling back

IT EVEN PULLS FORWARD ON HILLS WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE(IF I DONT HOLD IT ON THE BRAKE IT IT WILL DRIVE FORWARD) IT WONT STAY STILL UNLESS YOU TAKE IT OUT OFF GEAR.

i am by no means an auto expert!! but it sounds like the bands are too tight or it could be an ecu problem best taking it too an auto shop and asking they will give you some good pointers

The brake bands aren't involved in taking up the drive (otherwise they would wear). The box should have 1st gear firmly engaged at rest and it's the torque converter that will take up drive as the engine speed rises.

As far as I can see, if the dragging is excessive, it can only be because the engine is idling too fast for some reason, or the torque converter is dragging, either because it's the wrong type for the engine or maybe the input and output sides of it are dragging somehow. :-/

Any auto will drive forward when in gear, however if it's over powering the brakes then what is the tick over speed?

My now defunct Mig had the same problem, it would idle around 900-1100rpm, I was fairly sure someone had fiddled with it but it never lasted long enough to fix.
