end of the road for this mig
« on: 03 November 2010, 12:56:26 »

:'( well today i thought i was on the home straight with registering my car in Austria until i got to the tax office, first they made me go to opel and get the co2 certificate €220 then to customs to register it as coming accross the border €660 and then i can pay the emmissions tax on it but in all this tooing and froeing not one time would they tell me what the emmissions tax would cost so as it turns out the cost would be altogether €1910 :'( which in anyone's eyes is madness, turns out every gram of CO2 over 160 you pay €25 and with the omega running at 226 this turns out to be quite a bit over, would love to find some other papers for it but don't know if it's worth the risk or what would be involved to change the no's over, gotta say am not happy with the beuracracy in this land every bloody thing you try to do you get stumbled on and no-one will give you the correct infomation >:( >:( >:( >:(

Sounds like a very tough and expensive system

Blimey, I thought it was expensive(and it was) to convert my Omega from a British reg to a Spanish reg. but that is outrageous. Is yours left hand drive?  Here the endless visits to offices only to find you hadn't the right paperwork or worse you had the right paperwork but not enough copies-go outside and get a copy at the shop opposite by which time they had closed the queues and you had to come back another day. The guy had a photocopier right behind him but wouldn't use it for customers!!

So much for easy free movement of labour across EU borders!!!!

yes , this is a left hand drive but has come from switzerland so outside of the e.u but saying that all cars must pay emmissions tax on new registrations so basically the old car in Austria is doomed! under 160gm co2 you pay only normal tax which is upto 16% of the car's worth but the lady said most cars now sit at about 5% and the omega sits at 13% when i first saw the 13% i thought sweet until she hit me with the 25 euro pro mg over 160 ticket!

Hmm was under the impression that all cars in  sweden had an extra catylitic converter fitted? I know the big ones did, speciffically to lower emissions to next to nothing. may be worth a look as you local opel dealer wouldnt know this unless he looked under swedish specs?

well that's interesting any idea what they got the emissions down to and would i be able to retro-fit something like that? sounds painful though i must admit as then it will probably need to go through a single vehicle approval and god knows what else they may find! but i would be interested to know if anyone has any ideas on how to get the emmissions down. many thanks i really don't want to get rid of it as i have so many plans for it!

True. How much would you be able to reduce that figure by a custom extra catalytic converter? I know what you're thinking, you're still looking at plenty of pennies. What sort of car would you choose if you were forced to replace her?

well at the moment i drive a mazda6 which in all fairness is a good car sporty relatively quick but damned thirsty(4wd, 2.3 auto!) stuck between a rock and a hard place really as i like the power and comfort but don't like the price i pay! but may just have to find some other papers and grind out the numbers and reregister as a new motor no. but all said and done it's not so easy to find these either especially in the right colour and right engine size, but maybe someone could tell me if i got papers say for a 2.0 and when i went to get tested would the figures be so far out for a 2.2 that i wouldn't pass?
