Citroen C5 1.6 HDi
« on: 27 November 2010, 12:05:15 »

Refused to start yesterday, no dashboard lights although auxillary systems OK e.g. Alarms, interior lights etc
All fuses OK, Battery fine - AA gave up & eventually we got it to main Agent (cannot look at it until next week)
Anyone have experiences similar on Citroens or any other make?
I suspect something related to immobiliser

Needed a new BSI at a cost of £430.19 fitted inc VAT
(BSI - Built-in system interface which allows all of the systems to communicate with each other) :'(

Part £204.71
Labour £161.41
Then add VAT
Easily removed & replaced but then whole car needs to be reprogrammed to recognise it & all of the other systems which is whyI suspect the labour is so high
Will be similar for all Citroens, Peugeots & probably most other 'modern' cars
Apparently they can only be programmed once so a used one is out of the question unless it come with all of the other parts that interface with it e.g. ECU, Radio, Immobiliser, Steering lock, Keys etc.

Nothing like built-in obsolescence to prop up their parts revenue. >:(

Still, you found a member of the motor trade who successfully diagnosed a fault without any unnecessary parts substitutions, so have been lucky. ;)

The BSI unit is made by Johnson Controls

If you refer to the car it's a MK2 (56 plate)
The BSI that failed is by Johnson Controls, I don't know who manufactured the replacement as its now hidden in the car, but it did come from Citroen because I have the box
