Stick with it. Once you get on top of all the faults it will just be routine maintenance. As others have said already they are cheap cars to buy so some jobs may have been skimped on in the past. Put these right and they can be very good cars

I know took mine on a 3300 mile trip around europe in the summer. Never missed a beat.

I will give you the fact that when it is on the motorway, or towing a load, it is a nice car. A very strong tower and on the motorways very nice. Especially when it kicks down at 80 ish!!

See you have a Triumph Spitfire, I have always wanted one of them!! Envious!!

Thanks for everybodies encouragement. I will see what the MOT throws up after I have replaced the wing mirror and hopefully stick with it.

well i have had ignition barrel stuck completely, needs front brake pads, gearbox oil and filter, 3 new tyres, a set of plugs, a door that wont lock on the button, auto that dies at any time it likes, revs that hunt more than a rich person on a fox hunt, heaters that work then go off after 20 mins,  19mpg amongst other faults but........ its a mig and i love it and price paid to price repaired i couldnt get the value anywhere else... and when running mint they are AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!  8-) 8-)

Let me tell you something.........
I do probably more miles than most in mine, as I am a mobile electro-mechanical engineer.

Somebody correct me if i;m wrong, but doing 35-40k a year is high milage, and apart from cambelts, wishbones and 'rods, tyres, LOADS of oil changes, a radiator after an altercation with a stray bolt, and the normal mots and exhaust bits, NOWT has really gone wrong!! (now i've jinxed it!)

Its a GREAT car, and only perhaps a volvo or merc 300 estate can beat it for carrying capacity.

My next car will almost certainly be another miggy estate!

Stick with it, you may have a bad one, but I doubt it, just a P.O that didn't give it the servicing it deserved.

Yes, mine is a moneypit, but ferchrissake its done 168k of hard, heavy load carrying miles loaded to the gunnals, and sometimes towing a 'van aswell.

Still love it though..................................... ::)

Most of the mentioned problems with cars here are just plain old maintenance items.
Every type of gasket is something that will need replacing sooner or later. wishbones probably would be bulletprof if there wasn't so many potholes and your nice moist english weather  ;D
Omega does suffer from some problems and those are mainly: shitty plastic interior coating
auto box intermittent problems, and some electrical problems with ecu-s and abs ecu.
Mechanically vise they seem to be very good cars

I have often questioned the purchase of my Omega as it was only £350 two years ago so it must be scrap value by now.
I then look at what else is available for the same price and then it all makes sense, yes I have had and still do have problems but it is always going to be a service/consumable item that will eventually get sorted when I can afford it.
I have only done 2000 miles since my last MOT so in the grand scheme of things MPG doesn't really come into the reason for having a car that I might be able to walk away from should it be involved in an accident.

If you buy one which hasnt been looked after properly it will have problems, and it will take time to work through them. My first one was such a car, and it drove me to distraction for a time, but once sorted and properly serviced, they are generally reliable. :y

Most of the stuff listed are consumables and need replacing at some point anyway, not something I'd moan about, all cars require that sort of maintenance.

When you think of the VFM these cars provide you can't grumble too much, especially as the competition at the same price point will most likely cost a lot more to maintain!

In the 6 months I've had mine I've spent £700+ on; camcover gaskets, new windscreen, 5 new tyres, new battery, 20L oil + filters, ballast pack.

You bought, for less than a grand, a ten year old car that when new was a serious competitor to the BMW 5-Series.

I really hope you get the problems sorted out with it as Migs are very good motors, but in all honesty I just cannot see how you can complain.  If you were expecting to get trouble-free, zero cost motoring from it then you were kidding yourself.  Get some oil on yer hands and have a bash!   :y

I have bought 3 omegas, the first in 2000, then in 2007 and then in 2010, the latter 2 we still have.... :y

All were in theory perfect purchases, fsh etc but all have needed work to get them sorted, still on with the latest purchase the 2.2.. ::) ::)

However, as others have said, once sorted and then maintained properly they are reliable, spacious and comfortable cars.....and cheap for what you get.... :y :y

Matt, you haven't bought a lemon mate, have a read through the help pages at some of the things that can go wrong. You can save yourself a lot of money by attempting the fixes yourself if you've got a bit of confidence and reading through the excellent guides on this forum. You'll also learn a lot about your car in the process and not get so worked up when things go wrong.

All the things you've described so far are just things that most owners on here expect to see at some point  ;D

Like I said, I realise things go wrong with cars and they need taking care of. I have owned plenty of cars with a few Tea Breaks under their belt!

Zero cost motoring is not what I expected. However, all this stuff going wrong in a very short period of time and less than 2000 miles seemed unreasonable to me as I have had cars with twice the mileage with half the problems straight off the bat.

I'm sure everybody know's what I mean when you just feel as though you can't trust it anymore and just waiting for the next thing to go wrong when you turn the key.

However, it is encouraging seeing it is not just me and others out there have had a similar experience. It is comforting to see people saying that once the work is done, Omega's seem to be thought of as reliable enough.

I have decided to keep with it depending on what the MOT in May kicks up. If it fails badly, there may be another thread soon starting with "anybody want an MOT failure Omega?"

So, Cheers.
