Hi spent 3 and a half hours changing swimbos 2.6 starter today. Cured the fault but what a day. Whats your views or worst job youve tackled

Only had my mig since october and i have spent a fair bit. Partly because it needed it and partly because i wanted it done as i like to be on the safe side.

Car cost £1120 and after i have the cam cover gaskets changed next week i would have spent roughly £650 on that and cambelt kit, waterpump, pads, discs, oil + Filter change, Brake fluid change, Coolant Change, air filter, New rear brake pipes and other minor things.

Half of that i just wanted doing for peace of mind.


Had small cars for the last few years and everytime i get out of my mrs fiat seicento and get in to the mig i respect it and ill treat it with respect. drives well, super comfortable, lots of equipment, very smooth and soooo much cheaper to buy at least than anything else size wise.

 8-)Just so much car for so little money had mine since the 1/12/10 been lucky so far only fitted new wipers , it had only done 50,000 miles when i got it one owner with fsh the most comfortable car i have  ever had  .

Worst job I have done is removing both heads on a v6 and replacing 12 bent valves. worth it though as its the best car I have ever had , and Iv'e had a lot

That's only true if count initial purchase price, i've had mine for 10yrs now and really cant complain but it seems once they hit a certain age they become a real money sink.

Oh and worst job was the handbrake shoes, I lost so much skin on them. I have a suspicion if I go ahead with it resealing the metal coolant pipe might surpass it...

 ;DMine was really little  money to start with ,wifey pranged my Mazda 626 insurance co could not source parts for repair to tailgate so gave me £1270.00 & let me keep the car. The 2.6 CDX had been reduced from £ 2995 - £1995 at the main dealers who allowed me another £600 0n the Mazda so the Omega cost me £125 cheapest car i have ever had!!

Bought mine in 2003 when it was 10 months old for £12995 - had 7 years of fairly trouble free motoring. In the last 3 weeks I have bought 4 tyres, 2 rear springs, 2 rear shock absorbers, 2 front wishbones, 2 front track control arms, 2 rear track control arms, new discs and pads all round and a full geometry check.   Even with buying parts at trade/ebay bargains I reckon I have spent nearly £1000 and I have just bought 12 months tax for £235.   I only hope my car is worth what I have just spent!!!!

Maybe! 
But all those bits are pretty much service parts. You could/would have had to buy them what ever car you owned for that long.

I appreciate that they are service parts - and I have replaced springs, wishbones and tyres previously but I have never had to replace everything at the same time.   You notice when the money flows so rapidly rather than when it dribbles away.

You'd have only had something else to spend your money on if your Omega had behaved itself .... washer, tumble dryer, flat roof etc etc

I have bought 3 Omegas in the last 11 years, the first in 2000, then another in 2007 and lastly in 2010...All of them ended up needing some initial work but once sorted and maintained have turned out to be very reliable.... Had I known about OOF before I joined in 2007 my selling of my 2000 purchase and purchase in 2007 may never have happened.....

Comfortable, reliable, well made to name afew. I've had two Omegas-one for 8 years and the other for 2-both excellent cars. I'm at the moment Omegaless and don't know what to buy to replace the two estates I have had. I'm edging towards a L322 Range rover.

That reminds me of the Jug, on our sink in the flat roof bay in the kitchen which has sprung a leak, did a quick bodge job then the snow and ice came....

I have some new flashing to put on but just need a warm and dry weekend to sort it...
