LPG filler hose length
« on: 17 March 2011, 16:22:41 »

How much do I need?

Teilo says the hole on tank is as near as centre as to make no difference, filler will be in same place as MV6 behind numberplate?

Why bother with a JIC pipe... Just get the correct end to use Polyflex ;)

Incidentally, you can get a polyflex fittings that attach straight to JIC type fittings, although Teilo may not do them

Or, in answer to the question, dunno! What route did/does the pipe take? I assume around the tank? All I can suggest is getting out there and having a little measure

Because I get cold hands waiting 3hrs for the rather thing to fill.  A certain Mr Wood likes to gloat he can fill his very fast (at certain stations), so thats the line I'd like to go down ;)

There are very few stations in the UK where you'll get the benefit ;)

Most of the cheaper ones don't have fast enough pumps... In fact, I don't recall anywhere I've been in the UK with a fast enough pump (apart from where KW fills, although I've never been there)... On the continent, however........

[edit]Oh... And the 4-hole tank fill valve will be faster anyway :y[/edit]

Here's my guestimate...

750mm from Tophat to centre of tank
750mm from tophat to osr corner
500mm from osr corner to middle of number plate

Is somebody with more intelligence than me confirm that 2m is correct?

I have a feeling mine was 2m and that goes straight down through the boot floor and along the tow bar. No chance would it make that run. I had to get a longer one at any rate.

I would probably route the hose  round behind the trim panels, down through the first aid kit cubby hole, out behind the bumper and across to the filler. They don't need to be inside the airtight ducting. :y

Also consider whether you need straight or right angled unions on the hose and filler.

That's 2m all right... But does that allow a little "spare" as well?

Mind you, that should be OK :-/

why doesn't it need to be in airtight duct?

whats wrong with following similar route to the polyflex route on MV6?

The JIC pipe just gets sealed inside a boot at the Tank end and on the back of the filler (if internal) :y

Right, OK, so what route would you follow Lazytinker?

KW's route sounds very good and tidy... Similar to mine (as far as the filler in the rear wing) and would be neat and tidy... Only down side I can see is securing the pipe every 600mm (maximum) as per COP11 and the open hole in the floor, although I'm sure Teilo could chuck a spare boot in the post to seal the hose to a "Top Hat" in the floor ;)

TBH, I would just use Polyflex for the fill and run it through ducting because I'm tight I can't see the point in paying the extra ;)

I think that the spare filler I gave you is for JIC type hose though :y

Of course, if you really wanted to make more work you could drop the petrol tank and run it in a reasonably straight line ::)

If you want to use a similar route to the PF on the Silver Bullet then you either still need the second boot or to run it through ducting ;)

Last time I lowered the petrol tank (on Tractor) it was fairly quick and easy, so thats always a possibility  :-/.  Is there room above it though :-/

I was thinking of running it in corregated tube from tank to top hat.

Unclear what gains (or disadvantages beyond it looks more challenging) Kevin Wood's route has  :-/

Kevin Wood - LD has already said he wouldn't use anything other than polyflex, what are your views?

Mine's done with JIC hose but there are so few UK filling stations with a pump fast enough to get the benefit I'd use PF if I did it again, especially with the filler located where yours will be ;)

If mounting it on a tow bar I would probably change my mind again ::)
