What a waste of an evening, thermostat.
« on: 23 March 2011, 07:42:44 »

Welung666 came over last night to replace the thermostat, got it all stipped down, went to replace the thermo. only to discover the dealer had given me the wrong thermo.

What a waste of time and for Welung666 who came over.

Car in bits, back to the dealer today.

Not happy.

That was one problem, yes, but the seating was slightly different as well.

Thats very odd, if its the right shape then there should be no issues, its not like there are more than one version for the V6

The only issue I had once was that the o ring supplied would not fit in its recess. It needed a round in profile o ring the one that came was square in profile. . .

The body wasn't as thick, so we had to cut the bolts down, put it all back together and water was pouring out.

Stripped it down again, and double checked them against each other, the rubber 'O' ring was slightly smaller, on the new one.

Yeh, the square section seal only seems to fit the large flanged stats.

The thin flanged stats need like a small fibre type seal (which doesn't work very well actualy!) which I am pretty sure Vx dont sell anymore (which I have flagged as an issue a number of times to them)

You could of swapped the inserts over to the old housing though....

They have given you the late seal ring which is incorrect for that stat.

For the stat you have you need 90502258 seal ring and new bolts 11094901

Andy

Oh and transfer pipe seals 9129999

The best option is to get the later stat as the seal setup is MUCH better and MUCH more reliable
