alfa striked back! lol
« on: 14 July 2011, 19:44:43 »

well, i said i would try get 1000 miles on the alfa before warranty ends, after the work i had done, pretty much did and the car went into limp mode! lol not spoke to garage yet, but as i was told EGR valve, i really hope they listen to me this time!
is there anything i can do to prove it? how does it work? what does it all mean?
seems to be fine, gets to temp then fault starts, i dont know if im way off here, but does egr mean exhaust gas recirc? so would that mean it does something once the car is upto temp? which causes the problem.
thanks for any help agian, hopefully will get this done under warranty

A bloke at work has a 159 & the EGR valve failed on his soon after buying it. He reckoned that it's a common fault.

EGR never fails, it simply clogs up and to clean it properly you have to strip the solenoid (and not just the valve)

They kick in from first startup actualy and on a diesel are always open unless on boost.

Easy enough to remove and clean though.

Symptoms are more smoke (which clogs the DPF faster), lack of go and the turbo is slow to spool.

More likely to happen when warm but may also happen when cold to.

Still not had a reply from the car sales, noticed on website they have moved, i know exactly where to even tho address is still old one, could just be cus they have been busy moving, but its not good enough to leave a customer with a broken car under warranty esp when its a problem that should of been sorted already grrr

(this could be karma for the punto i traded in for it pmsl)

what an excelant garage! they managed to plug it in, and say there is a fault. so mechanics these days only use computers to diagnose things? dont actualy look at anything? like maybe check the egr valve, (which aprently they say wouldnt be the fault), so they reset the ecu and its ready to pick up......
now agreed i will collect the car, (now i have to wait for the bloody fault to come back took 800 miles last time) So i can take it to alfa specialist under warranty. maybe they have mechanics that can use spanners and such not just a little box to plug in.
made my bad mood much better.  :-/ ::) >:(

Got a friend with a 159 sportswagen and his went into limp mode about a month ago, he had it recovered to an alfa dealer and it was a crack in the inlet manifold, oh it is a diesel,
