OMEGA NOW GONE TOTAL LOSS !!!!
« on: 08 September 2011, 19:35:07 »

Well as i returned from two great weeks in yorkshire on hols with family i pulled up to my house with a sick feeling,My beloved mig was parked outside my house with the rear end smashed in, I felt physically sick i walked and opened the house front door to find a letter from plod asking me to call them, going straight for the phone called them only to find a young lad drunk driver had hit it,After going down to see plod to get insurance details etc i thought at least he was insured,
Well monday morning on the phone to insurance company within an hour the car was collected, and taken to the approved repairer, phone call tuesday from repairer they think its total loss insurance company will call,
Today thursday they called its a total loss. boot, boot floor etc,  now for the blow 2002 52 mig 2.6 cdx 82k fsh
settlement £1180
excess compulsory £250
excess voluntary £100
installments still  to pay on insurance £76
private plate retention £105

gives me a grand total of £649 to buy another car
well to say gutted is an understatement o k i will try to recover expenses from his insurance company but at the mo
no car and no cash oh i can buy it back for £450 but its just not worth it,

 :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(

Sadly, Omegas are worthless, and damage even just a knock would declare them written off.

I would push for a higher valuation than that though, get some examples off auto trader  :y

yes - as Tunnie says get some evidence. make sure you get your claims in to his insurer for all excesses etc. You would have been able to claim hire car but if offer is now on table you will have to be careful with that one. Does your insurer provide replacement car?

You need to get into dialgoue with his insurers - I think maybe argue that you want a hire car at their cost until such time as they put you in the position of recovering the agreed value of the car. I think they would be responsible until they settle your uninsured expenses - this may get them to move quicker.

just too much damage boot floor rear panel rear quarter bumper   the list goes on, the other problem is as i am not working i am not eligible for a hire car and my ploicy doesn't cover one.if the car is repairable then the approved repairer gives you one of there cars but if its a total they won't,

Is that from your insurance company? If not, you have no contract with them and have the right to push for the car (or a replacement) in the same condition

It doesn't matter what your policy covers. 3rd party is liable so you can claim any reasonable expenses, and all uninsured losses from them.

No its from my insurance company as i have legal cover they will fight for out of pocket expenses, the problem is omega cdx 2.6 is just not fetching any money, If it was an elite or mv6 then it would be different,

As said above - never accept the first offer.  Insurers always have more up their sleeves but know that a proportion of customers will do them a favour and accept a derisory offer.

Contact the drunk drivers insurance and demand they do something, if they don't steal the drunk drivers car and use that for a while

If the Omega is a write off, then I assume the drunk drivers car is well past it!  ;D

Have I missed something here, or am I wrong in what I am thinking.

You dont pay any excess, you didnt cause the accident.  You stand to it till the insurance claim is settled and finalised (so I thought)

I would also insist the car was of higher standerd being part of the OOF in keeping it well maintained and fettled, plus the fact you thought it worthy of a private plate.

Push for all costs involved, no mater what they are, your insurance is not paying the bill.  Why should you suffer.
