Re paint flow, I often wondered about keeping the part turning. Where possible?

if I understand correctly you are asking about paint flow and turning the wheel..  I need to turn the wheel for every spoke to spray at a correct angle for my hand and visible light..  because if you cant see what you spray you cant paint properly.. as I paint every piece in  12-16 steps ( 4 per every go-depending on part) and spray nozzle to minimum, flow is not a problem except the center holes..

ps: spray gun 1.0 micron small hvlp , bigger guns not suitable for that job

I understand that. Well, as much anyone can with very limited experience of spray painting such as me anyway ;D

Merely referring to flow in isolation and drips or runs in the paint. If the part being painted is turned constantly, or as soon as the paint is applied, then gravity can't pull the pain as much and then allow either more paint to be applied, or less time to allow flow.

Eg, I once really struggled with painting a motorcycle petrol tank. I guess the paint was too thin, I don't know. But I got round it by placing the tank on a spit type arrangement, as the tank was off a bike with a spine frame so was a saddlebag style that lent itself well to a spit, which I could constantly turn at a slow speed.

Same amount of paint applied, but as it was rotating slowly, the paint didn't run.

It was just an idea really, that was also triggered by the way the wheel is mounted in the pic. :y

Nice job. :)

Thanks Chris.. :) :y

type and amount of reducer (thinner) directly determines your success or failure..  you must arrange the type (fast or slow reducer) according to environment temperature but even also have to play with book percentage according to spray face angle..  of course best and easiest way to paint is a horizontal surface but thats not always possible and if you are painting outside a horizontal surface means calling trouble with all sorts of insects and dust..  during painting I loose more than a half hour cleaning small insects either by a sticky tootpick or tackrag or cleaning thinner and re-spray again to correct.. The reason I painted outside is if I had to pay 8 hours of paint cabin rent the cost would double.. :-\

Went to replace discs and pads on the front of Mrs VXL's (Mrs SEAT doesn't have the same ring to it!) Alhambra only to be defeated by the caliper bracket bolts.

Think they will need a windy gun to get them off.

So that was a fail!

here is the same wheel from different angles. still raw , not sanded, not polished waiting it to cure completely.. must admit 5 mp camera is a bit limited in reflecting the actual shine

the reason for the color difference is the directional component which changes according to angle

Changed HBV on the Silver Bullet, and did breathers whilst there. Breathers good, by throttle body was a bit manky.

Managed to get the Battlebus to Tesco ;D

Washed all 3 cars.

Replaced a wheel on TBE, as it looks like it may have a puncture, so need to get that fixed.

Nope, not a chance, if I'd used a scaffold pole on the end of my breaker bar I'd have been standing next door  ;D

They will need shocking off with an air driven ratchet methinks. Having read up on Ford Galaxy / VW forums it seems a lot of people have been defeated by the bolts as well. Nice big discs on these 130 TDi's - 300mm with equally hefty calipers (although still single piston setup).

Having had the pleasure of that very task, rest assured, a 6' scaffold pole is all you need :y

Removed front bumper assembly from Jag today to overhaul suspension air compressor (new seals), and while bumper was off fitted Osram Night Breaker Plus bulbs to the headlights (crap design, need to remove lights to fit bulbs, and to remove lights have to drop bumper assembly)  Hopefully will be able to see now at night, and so far the suspension fault error has not reappeared - also note the car is sitting slightly higher now and feels much smoother driving.  Result

Renewed the insurance 10 days earlier than it should, same firm, so no issues changing companies. It was £250, and increase of £10 on last year, so not too bad  :) :)
