The best time I ever managed was 45 miles in 36 minutes mind I did have a Police escort , we were transporting a premature baby unit & mother  the old CF Bedford was smoking when we arrived.
An oldie but still a good one:

Brings back memories Steve, I had Police motorbikes going ahead to stop traffic at crossroads & traffic lights and Rover V8s in front & behind to speed me along , got to admit that I enjoyed every minute.

All my police escorts have been really slow, namely because I was always worried one of them would give me a tug if I went 1mph over ;D

(and non were emergency situations :y)

All of my Police escorts have been the result of a 'Follow me' sign popping up, followed by a big fine.  ::)  It's the German cars you see, they don't like German cars.  ::)

Was being naughty in the 3.0 24V Carlton coming home from Lincoln with a Toyota Starlet Turbo on an A frame in the middle lane, a copper in a Range Rover in the outside lane showed me a police sign as he passed me at around 80🤭 I slowed down for the rest of the journey thinking how lucky I was to get away with that :o

Do they leak externally when they fail?

Having a second look at a diesel thing in the morning and would be helpful to know. Would they cause extended cranking from cold or would a failed glow plug do that on its own  :-\

No visible signs of leaks.

It can cause bad starting, or in my case, stalling a few seconds after starting.  A bad set of plugs will cause bad starting - though giving it 3 or 4 sets of glow plug warming (sign on, count to 5 after the glow plug light goes out, sign off, repeat) will make it start faster if its just glow plugs.

Understood :y

It has a glow plug code for plug #4. It will be obvious as to the cause... Busted plug/wiring, snapped glow plug or failed glow plug.

At £17 each for genuine ones, swapping all six is cheaper than 12 spark plugs ::)

Sorted the quilted bootliner out in the RRS came with the car when I bought it but always looked a bit untidy, SWMBO attached some velcro to it  now fits nice & snug , she also machined a cut out section into it so I can now get to the tools jack etc without removing it completely.

Didn't part ex it for the cheapest R320cdi in the country.

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202110299016551

Nothing insurmountable wrong with it, but I drew the line at having to buy tyres on the way home.

It would have been a stonking deal though.
