Discovered that Mercedes offers service plans for vehicles up to 20 years old and will honour plans that expire after 20 years old...

As an example, mine is currently 16 3/4s... Take out a 3 year plan now, and renew it with a four year plan in 2026 and enjoy a further 4 years servicing and MoTs. At the end of which it will be 24 :o

Not sure if £600 a year represents good value or not, although it does include time due items such as brake fluid, coolant and spark plugs :-\
Less than the road tax  :-\

Thanks :y

It's the same tax as the Alabama Mumsybus.

I think it was a pretty decent deal all round. It's obviously been looked after, is a decent colour/spec and was a fair price. Rude not to really.

Only non working gadget is the rear windows, but they're known for needing a software update to fix ;)

I don't think it would be worth the outlay, Rae, probably only going to Heathrow and back on a regular basis. For the cost of LPGing that monster, and losing most of the boot, you could but a lot of fuel.

Agreed, and if I have to play the ULEZ game, it will be on my terms. ;)

Dropped it off to its new owner and collected it's replacement...

A very tidy '56 Mercedes S500.

Pics. We need pics.  :)

Looks very tidy Doc.

Do some research. The Boxster isnt listed as exempt, but if I apply to Porsche for some paperwork I can get it exempted. Dont know how, as its 23 years old, but plenty of owners have done it.
Pretty sure the Omega is already exempt.

Is that the one with 16 plugs? if so, that service plan sounds reasonable value TBH, considering its main dealer blah blah.  Plus suits the CBA that inflicts us all as we age ;D

Flip side, it has little value left, so maintaining MB history is probably a non issue.

Car looks tidy enough.  Looks a bit smaller in back than I remember for S Class, but guessing all Bro's were LWB maybe?

Hope it serves well, and EU4 petrol currently doesn't pay to have statues of important historical figures removed by that retard Khan I believe?

Good luck with it  :y

Just a small word of warning, Al, Brent crude oil is up about 6% over the last week. The last thing you need is £2 a litre petrol with your gas guzzler.

Ta :y

It's the later M273, not without its foibles but 383bhp vs 306 of the earlier M113 lump. The 7 speed box should help with the consumption somewhat... rolls down the road at about 1,500 rpm. And yup, it's the swb version. ;) The extra is just more to park.

The service plan is tempting, if only from a CBA perspective...

Qué sera, sera. The R Class wasn't exactly economical... 28.1mpg over 19,252 miles.  If it does 24/25 mpg I will be happy enough ;)

Did I mention I'm getting 57mpg from wife's old 1.6 Astra diesel? I think I probably did  ;D
