My new car
« on: 19 December 2010, 21:47:51 »

Well I when up to near Hudderfield yesterday to pick up my Ebay win. ;D

It's a 1999 T reg 2.5 CDX TD Est. 135000 miles.

Sorry the pics are not very good but they were taken on my phone in the garage. Once the weather gets better I'll take some better ones.

Had no problems on the 100 mile trip home, and all seems to be fine, except for a couple of small things, I hope.
1 . When you come to a stop, say at a juntion, there is an increse in the vibration of the engine, if you put your hand on the gear stick it is very noticable.

2 . I noticed some oil sat round the injector recess on the front most injector, probable from a spill when filling with oil, but there was small bubbles coming from around were the injector scews in. the injector seems to be tight but is hard to check without diconecting everything. any one else had this problem?

Spent today just having a good look over it and getting to understand all the gismo's.

There are a few little things that need sorting but nothing much:

The ash tray is broken, it does work but does not sit shut properly, so a new one can be added to my shoping list.

The P/S front seat map pocket is missing it's cover

 D/s mirror glass neads replaceing

Engine injector cover is missing

Spare wheel has the insert but all the tools are missing

Rear floor/wheel cover handle broken

When tying to fix the ash tray, i took the radio out and found 3 coax cables, the gray one is the radio airal but what is the black one for? and does anyone have any idea what the black coax with the red and black wires someone has soldered on to it for? :-?

Thats all I've found so far, so not too bad for an 11 year old car. ;D

Tomorrow I am going to get all the service parts, oil ect. and give it a full service and engine flush, and then a good wash and polish.

All in all a very happy bunny :y :y

The other coax will be for the phone (Original head unit would have been a CCRT700) and the red and black coax would be the aerial for a trafficmaster unit (switch has a T legend and is to the left of the Headlight switch).

Nice find by the way, TD's getting rare with low miles  :y

Yes the head unit is the CCRT700 but could only see one coax input on the back, so where does the phone coax plug in to the back of the radio ? There was a small socket of some form above the airial socket but it did not look as if it would fit there.

It does have the trafficmaster switch but where is the traficmaster unit.

Thanks for your help.

Trafficmaster unit is located above the drivers leg, remove the panel and look up!

Yep, smaller Coax plug should plug into the top socket on the Head Unit

The red / black cable should be encased in a black outer, the red and black are separated at one end and usually stuck on the climate panel or close by. The other end has a BNC plug on and is plugged into the TM unit.

PS. Is that V6 Manta yours?  ;D

Thanks for the info.

If you are talking about this manta, then yes. ;D
It was the first Manta in the UK and Europe to have the V6 fitted way back in 98.

I do love that engine bay - The Vectra intake looks far more 'beastly' than the boring Omega plenums!  ;D

Yep, I found a jack but no handle, but I don,t think it is the original jack.
Will be doing a scrap yard run in the new year to see if I can find some of the bits I need to replace.

Thanks for the comments on the Manta. It is my pride and joy and so much fun to drive. I too think that the vectra plenums are so much more "sexy" than the Omega once, but the main resson for fitting them is that they are lower than the Omega ones and so i did not need a bonnet bump and as I wanted to keep the car looking standard that was inportant.

The manta is curently off road having some more dreaded tin worm cut out, but I hope to have it back on the road for next years shows.

Not too bad for a 39 year old car, that had been used and abused by me for the last 29 years, I beleave that a car was made to be driven, and by heck do I drive them. :y
