V6 Omegas
« on: 30 October 2008, 22:49:32 »

Hi, I am not yet an Omega owner, am seriously considering purchase of 2.5 or 3.0 V6 as present vehicle not up to task of pulling our caravan. Have noticed that many for sale on E-bay seem to be suffering from head gasket or oil leak problems, is this common for these vehicles ?
Which is best choice between manual or auto ? Any other info/opinions would be appreciated.
Thanks & regards,
Alex

"Hello" and Welcome :)

I think all your questions already have answers on the forum ... you just need to do a little reading to find them ..  :y :y :y

And the 2.5 or 3.2 miggy makes an excellent tow-car ... used both for towing a 1600 Kg 'van for the last 5 years  :y :y :y

Hi Alex and welcome to OOF. :)

Head gaskets aren't a particularly common failure but they are prone to oil leaks from rocker cover seals which is a relatively easy fix if you do it yourself but not an expensive job if an independent garage does it. These often fail due to blocked crankcase breathers which causes pressure build up if they aren't cleaned out regularly. Plenty of good help, advice, FAQ's and How To's on here. :y

Hello and welcome -- HG failure is a common mis-diagnosis and the leaks can easily be fixed (stopped from occuring in the first place too) very easily.  :y

Hello & Welcome  :y

Cars can be niggley if not maintained.

As for Auto / Manual, thats a huge debate!  and one people will never agree on.

I have an auto, my wife has the manual, depends on the day as to which I prefer, but all things being equal would pick a manual (I Think)
