Hi everyone,should I buy a 2.2 Dti?
« on: 07 December 2009, 22:31:26 »

Hi,I don't currently own an Omega(had a 2.0 CD in '97 and a 24V Senator in '95 so Am returning to the fold). But after looking at loads of overpriced Merc E Classes and Audi A6's I've just realised the best newest 2.2 Dti Omegas in the world only cost a quarter for equivalent year and half the miles !
Whilst I realise it's a bit cheeky asking advice in a first post-anything I should look out for?

"Hello" and Welcome :)

Not an oil-burner man .. and 2.2 seems a tad small for a tonne and a half of metal ..... but that metal is extremely comfortable, has lots of poise, is nice to drive and will have virtualy no depreciation.

So if you were asking about a 3.2 V6 ... the answer would be a YES FOR CERTAIN .... but I'm sure a less biased person will pass by and give a sensible answer .. :)

Ow do & welcome along :) :)

Yes you should :y Make sure the car comes with a comprehensive SH. Regular oil changes are a must.
There's no cam belt to worry about :) There aren't really any major problems with the DTi. I've had mine 2 years & not had any problems at all :y :y :y

Thanks Entwood, but I really don't need encouragement like that!
I'm keeping my Jag for best and I've saved up for some petrol, but I need a 600 mile a week cruiser hence the derv. Although I was very tempted a couple of months ago when I saw what must have been the last couple of Royal Protection 3.2 Elites(one black, one green) go through an ex-Police auction for a couple of grand each!

Good choice :y :y

There is another thing to look for. Make sure the diesel injector seals have been replaced, they have a habit of braking down at around 80,000. They cost around 7p each but are a pig to do & if a garage does the job, it'll cost :(

If the car is pointing nose down hill when you view it make sure you ask if they've been done, their job is to stop the fuel flowing back down the pipes & if the car's parked nose down this doesn't happen ;) If it's parked nose up & takes alot of cranking before it starts then this is usually the problem.

Go 3.2 petrol and convert it to LPG ... cheaper to run than any equivalent oil burner and far more fun .. :)

Seriously .. after nearly 2 years on LPG my AVERAGE cost of fuel is 14.23 pence /mile on LPG as against 23.23 pence/mile on petrol .. a saving of 9 pence /mile

Over the past 2 months the figures are somewhat different as petrol prices have risen, LPG has gone up but not as fast .. so the saving over 2 months is presently running at 11.07 pence /mile

Just a thought for you to consider .. :)

( okies .. don't go 3.2  .. go 2.5 and save even more .. :)   )

 ;) ;) ;) ;)
