Ecc problem and heated seat not working
« on: 08 November 2006, 13:33:32 »

Hi all

I have a 1998 3 litre elite which has three annoying faults at preent

1) The heater which is climate control version only blows out cold air.Ive had a new matrix fitted along with various new hoses.Ive also changed the Heater Bypass Valve to.The two pipes that enter the drivers footwell are getting hot so i guess the matrix is getting hot.
Any ideas?

2) The passenger side front heated seat (leather) has packed up.Theres power getting to the plug so would this suggest the element has blown?
If so is it a costly repair?

3) The car has xenon lights fitted and the passenger one goes off sometimes. When you turn the lights off for a seecond or so it comes back on.Ive put new bulb in but still does it
Any ideas

Thanks in advance for any advice  :y

1) Reset ECC by press and holding Auto and Off.  Are both sides cold, or just 1?

2) Common on leather, no easy repair.

3) Souns like bulb, but if already changed, try and see if ballast pack can be swapped with good side....

1)
Does Outside temp read correctly.  No vacuum type hisses coming from behind glovebox or engine bay?

2) Yes, damn.  Specialist repair on leather.

3) Never tried, but would have been obvious is it is possible I would think...

It may (or may not) be ECC ECU. This is bloody expensive new, ebay may be better option (make sure it comes off right car - saloon or estate - as they run different software internally)

 ......
I must be a 'specialist' then! :)
Take the seat out & remove the cover from the base - no real fancy fittings. Mine was burnt between the plug and the element, so I just cut out a small section of the heating element and re-joined it to the short section of the loom. End result - a warm bum!  :) Just take the neccessary precautions when disconnecting the seat loom re the nannying bomb air bag.
If when you put the seat back it still doesn't work you've lost nothing, except a few hours.  :-?
I also made the same repair to my Senator.

Where are you then? It's really not too difficult to remove the seat. Honest!

It's definately not a job I'd want to pay someone else to do. 5 mins of repair but a couple of hours of labour to actually do it. What else have you managed to spend £5k of repairs on?  :(

I think you should do another, take photos, and write a guide. Many on here with leather would be very interested ;)
