Adjustable Steering Column.

  Hi,
I saw this on eBay and wondered if anyone could tell me if it's possible to fit this to a 96 Omega 3L Elite with standard column and if so what's involved parts wise?

  Thanks for any help,

                         Pete :y.

Mark DTM keeps telling Bo Bo to put one in his N-reg Elite.

Easy mod and worth doing if you are tall...I cant see the top third of the speedo on a car with a fixed column.
I made a load of notes for a how-to, I will look them out and post them.

You have to drill out one bolt to remove your old column, there are differences in the steering column lock between auto and manual, if you have to transfer your lock to the new column there are two bolts to drill out and a little bit of fileing to do but its all easy stuff and should only take you an hour or so.

£40 seems a bit expensive, ask Mr McBurger if he still has a complete column and pods for sale, I removed the one from his MV6 breaker and I think he may still have it.

I'd love to, but can't ever see me doing it, maybe after I've seen Matchless's how to, but doubt it!

Hi all,
       Thanks for all your replies.

Matchless, that would be very helpful if you find and post that info :).

Mark DTM, are you saying this has been done sucessfully? as i would very much like to change to an adjustable type for all the reasons given plus i'm quite big in the girth as well and the wheel sits much to low for my liking :y.

If this is possible i will have that column off Mr McBurger if he still has it and agrees ;).

         Regards,
                     Pete.

I have had one omega without it and one with it, my verdict is that it is an extra part suspect to rattle and annoy people. This thing is the primary noise source in my car's cabin. It does improove the driving position and it is good feature to have but the quality of it is horrific. It might not show on low milleage cars but it does on the high ones.

Like wise. Same mileage, similar age but my rattle/squeak is the bloody driver's door somewhere around the catch area. It drives me mad!!!  >:(

Thought about the adjustable column, (just wonder why it wasn't standard from the beginning?)
Decided I can't be bothered changing it though.

Mines got a whiney type noise....esp noticabley when turning the wheel when stationary.....dunno if thats anything to do with having an adjustable sterring wheel....or just a noise an omega makes  :-/
Plus i get a rattle from the drivers door too.....but i can usually cure that by rearranging the rubbish kept in the driver door pocket  ;D

Jaime...rattle on speaker grill?.....are you sure its the grill? Door speakers dont like the constant shocks of doors being shut.....i had a speaker changed on a veccy once....it sounded like a rattle....but if you took the grill off and gentle pushed on the cone...it wasnt free moving......speaker replaced and rattle gone  ;)

I replaced my passenger door speaker with a second hand one & now it sounds like it needs replacing again, think I'll check the grill first though!
