Do I have an Omega Engine?
« on: 13 November 2006, 13:07:48 »

Today I had a nightmare changing the thermostat and I am beginning to wonder what engine I have

Since owning the MV6 I have had the following problems?

Cam Belt marks did not line up (Cam belt from AutoVaux)
Radiator did not fit mounting points (Radiator from Vauxhall)
Thermostat (housing) did not look anything like the one in there (From Halfords)

So I went along to Mills Auto with the thermostat I had taken out of my car and waved it at them. We looked at loads of diagrams and the only option that looked like mine was a part that was for the 3.2 Omega or the 3.0 Sintra. As I know the engine is a 3.0 (it is written on there) I used the old housing cos it was OK and put a new thermostat in. Engine now runs around 90 which I believe is correct for V6.

The point is, why do I have so many mis fits on parts. Is it because I have a Sintra Engine in my Omega!?? It is ex plod and possible they put a new engine in but it seems strange to put a Sintra one in!

Why would it be a different thermostat for two different 3.0 V6's anyway?

Can PM engine number to anyone if that helps answer the question

All the V6 units have the same thermostat setup.....Halfrauds always hand out a 2.0 16V one though, which is clearly wrong. This is true of many of the non-gen suppliers.

I suspect that your Omega and engine are correct and that its just poor parts supply, note that the the cambelt setup changed around mid 97 and required different marks on the belt

I agree that it could be Halfords, but Mill Autos are a brilliant dealer and I saw the pictures myself. The one that was supposed to be for 3.0V6 Omega was the same as the halfords one. Also that one is the same as the one listed on the vauxhall parts list!

Well, Mills autos are wrong then....the V6 stat did not chnage from the days of the Cav V6 through to the final units in the Vectra C

Yes I was a victim of hellfrauds yesterday, went to get brake bulbs, looked at the their parts book, said bulbs 380, bought them don't fit, the bits that hold the bulb in place were offset, and did'nt fit.

Usually if the pins are offset, its coz they're dual filament bulbs.....ie tail light and fog light ....to stop you plugging them in the wrong way round and the fog light coming on when it should really be the tail light
and vice versa  :y

Offset pins either brake light or amber indicator. I didn't know you could actually buy NEW bulbs!!!  Have you NEVER been to a scrapyard?

Good idea but this just doesn't stop some folk - and that's the lot than can be a**ed to change a dead bulb - do they think, 'oh that new one is a lot brighter because its new'?
Taa, I'll get of my box now.

I was in Halfords yesterday and a woman asked the Manager which wipers she needed for her car.

First he looked in the Bosch book - and moved on...

Then he looked in the Halfords book - and moved on...

Then he looked in another book - and moved on ...

He then took her outside with a tape measure cos he couldn't find it in any of the guides - and this rare model - a focus!

Fair enough. But to be really convinced, does anyone have a photo of what a V6 Thermostat (and housing) should look like?
