What year and spec, engine size is the car just out of interest.

May help in trying to diagnose the problem.

My advice would be to fix the oil leak and go from there.

In my experience, I had this when rocker cover gaskets started leaking and oil drips onto exhaust or the manifold resulting in fumes being drawn in the ventilation and heating system and into the cabin. Bloody stinks too!!

As per Bob.Dent mine also had a rocker gasket leak - from the half moon bit at the rear of the engine (2.2), it dribbled down the back of the engine, onto the gearbox, then onto the bottom flange of the breather hose, it got nicley heated by the engine and exhaust there and what a lovely smell it made.

Fixed the gasket then liberally applied loads of Gunk round the back of the engine and under the web at the bottom of breather, gave it a hose down and it's been okay since.

Certainly sounds like the symptoms I had when the cam cover gaskets were failing.
Check for oil in the plug wells its the classic symptom.

Lee as others have said try getting the sump leak resolved

Also check to see if the rear crank breather is not blocked causing leaking at the base it could be its oil on the engine near the sump causing slowly cooking the oil smell.

Also as captainzok says check your plug wells for oil as the leads could be cooking in the oil aswell.

Good luck with it. :y

i have had the small for a while now, but the rocker covers were not leaking.

Turns out to be one of the four hoses that go in the the ecotec cover on the top of the plenium, it has a crack in it and was venting into the atmosphere.
